Holiday House NYC 2012 :: My Faves

In it’s fifth year, Holiday House  is a holiday-themed designer showhouse benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Twenty-seven top-tier interior designers were asked to decorate a room around any holiday theme (many non-traditional such as “everyday’s a holiday”). Over the course of several months, the designers transformed the masionary-like mansion at Two East 63rd Street on the Upper East Side of  New York City. From modern to traditional, each room has a look and feel of it’s own, yet all are so chic. I’ve pulled a few of my favorite images:

Friday Find :: Monogrammed Gifts from Mark & Graham

Yesterday Williams Sonoma, Inc. launched it’s newest retail brand, Mark and Graham and you are going to love it. Specializing in “next-generation personalization” of products, Mark and Graham delivers a collection of custom monograms and a variety of fresh fonts, colors and formats  (from embroidery to engraving).

We believe that a mark is more than a symbol; It’s an artful mingling of typography and design that turns a gift into a personal gesture. It can be bold and boisterous or subtle and refined. It can join families together or celebrate individuality. It can be an inside joke or honor the literal beauty of a name. When it comes to making your mark, we hope you think of us for unique typefaces and beautiful objects. – Mark and Graham

With the holidays coming up, Mark and Graham is a great shopping destination for you to create unique and deeply personal gifts… the kind your loved ones will cherish for years to come. Here are some of my picks…

Client Design Reveal :: Kitchen Design Transformation

Today I’m excited to be sharing a client’s eat-in kitchen that was recently updated. I’ve provided before and after pictures so you can see the kitchen design transformation. It’s quite dramatic.

Kitchen Design Update with Carrara Marble Countertops

In the kitchen the counters and backsplash were replace with gorgeous carrara marble. The gray veining is really beautiful. The island originally didn’t allow for seating, so we extended the marble and provided space for three barstools. The base of the island was painted a stoney gray to provide contrast with the white marble.

Other updates in the kitchen included new cabinetry hardware, a pair of pendant lights and an under-mount sink in stainless steel.  The cabinetry, flooring and appliances all remained the same.

To maximize the space in the dining area, I had a custom L shaped bench created (with storage drawers of course!). It is topped with a kid-friendly vinyl cushion in a metallic silver.  A rectangular trestle table and bright yellow ladder back chairs were also added so that the whole family can enjoy the space.

The family was thinking of moving to a new home, but after the kitchen was updated they decided to stay. It makes me so happy to think I helped a client love their home.

I have more pictures of this clients home that I’ll be sharing soon!

A big thank you to Michaela and Summer for helping me with the photoshoot!

Designer Spotlight: Massucco Warner Miller

For the past several years, I’ve enjoyed following the work of  interior design firm, Massucco Warner Miller.  Founding designers, Julie Kleiner (Massucco) and Melissa Warner each previously worked at design firms in San Francisco and New York, but felt that their impact would be greater as a team. Their style is fresh, approachable and classic with a modern twist.  Their portfolio showcases projects layered in beautiful patterns and textures and each feels as if it evolved over time (which I personally love!).  The design duo brilliantly blends a relaxed California vibe with a little New York glam.  A recent residential project in Napa Valley exemplifies what this creative team can do…
