Book Review :: Home Decor Cheat Sheets

How high should you hang a chandelier hang above the dining table? What paint finish should you use a kid’s room? What size rug should go under your bed? When it comes to decorating the questions can be endless, but there are definitely some design dos and don’ts I adhere to. Some of these “rules” are easy to remember, but it’s always nice to have a cheat sheet or illustration to reference. Over time I have pinned, cut-out and dogeared pages in decor books, but have never had one single source. So I was thrilled to receive a copy of a newly released book, Home Decor Cheat Sheets by Jessica Probus that contains 300+ colorful, easy-to-understand images aimed at teaching you everything from furniture placement to bathroom lighting tricks, window styles to  how to make a floor plan. I’m loving the practical nature of this book and is a resource I’m looking forward to using for years to come. Decor lovers, you are going to want a copy of this helpful book. It would also make a perfect housewarming gift!

Just like the completion of any home, the cheat sheets in this book are meant to be used as a process not to be tackled in one day or even one year, but consulted as needed over time to make the kind of slow, purposeful improvements that turn a few walls and some well-hung curtains into an actual home. – Jessica Probus, Author of Home Decor Cheat Sheets

San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: Powder Room

Sometimes it’s the smallest spaces that have such a big impact. That was the case with the Powder Room by Julie Rootes Interiors located just off the foyer in this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Julie lined the walls in Jim Thompson’s “Tibetan Sun” silk fabric – rich in earthy color and chic honeycomb pattern (personal fave). The warm gold and chocolate brown wallcovering is paired with luxe 24-karat gold and onyx mosaic glass tile and a fabulous hexagon niche in gilded metal. The raw edged calacatta marble vanity delivers an additional opulent touch. An unexpected image of a person swimming adorns the space and was commissioned specifically for the room by artist Eric Zener.

Nursery Room Ideas :: The Animal Print Shop

What spawns the design for a nursery room? Often times it can be a fabric, paint color or even crib design. However, in some cases its the artwork. This is certainly the case for many of the nursery rooms that feature the beautiful photography of animals by Sharon Montrose. From forest to farm, Montrose has captured the most amazing images images of animals (many babies themselves) perfect for an infant’s new space and sells them directly at The Animal Print Shop. Here are a few of my favorite nursery room ideas found on their blog.

holiday front door decor // simplified bee #TargetStyle

Last week I prepped our dinner table for the holidays, but this week I’m focusing on decorating the outside of our home. The first step is to create a festive holiday front door. Dressing up the your entry for the season is a great way to greet guests dropping by for celebrations, Christmas parties and holiday visits. With help from Target, I created a traditional Christmas look for our front door. I started by flanking the black front door with red poinsettias, pinecone & berry trees and birch lantern candle holders. Every door needs a holiday decor and I selected a classic boxwood wreath. I added a traditional black and white striped ribbon and sprigs of live red berries to complete the look. As a finishing touch I selected a fresh diamond door mat. Loving the result!

From beautiful wreaths to cheerful door mats, shimmering lights to festive lanterns, Target has what you’ll need to decorate your home inside and out this holiday season. And best yet, at prices that are so affordable it won’t break the bank!
