A Curated Look :: Houston Home

My favorite interior last week featured in Matchbook Magazine’s latest issue, was the beautiful home of Bailey and Pete McCarthy. After briefly living in Chicago and Austin, the husband and wife interior design team behind Biscuit Home and the Peppermint Bliss blog settled in Houston. For the home’s design, the couple incorporated items they’ve been collecting as they moved from city to city. Their curated look is inviting, multi-layered and has a wonderful mix of period styles.

I will say I have never considered my style fearless. My style has evolved over the years and I think it has gotten better and more refined, but it really is just my style. I am flattered that people like it but I am always a little amused when the work is called “fearless”- like maybe I should be afraid of putting it out there because it is testing the boundaries of good taste? Whoopsies. – Bailey McCarthy

Traditional & Colorful Interior Design by Miles Redd

New York based Interior Designer, Miles Redd (aka “king of color”) continues to live up to the colorful reputation. Elle Decor recently featured a Hudson Valley house designed by architect Gil Schafer and decorated by Redd. The homeowners wanted a home that was rich in tradition and had a functional floor-plan. The result is a gorgeous, color rich 7,500 square foot countryside home.

“It was important to consider Gil’s marvelous architecture,” says Redd. “The proportions, the moldings, and the amazing staircase set the tone.” He found a Sultanabad rug in rich hues of peacock-blue with greens and reds. “That was the springboard for us,” he explains, and its palette ultimately provided the subtle cohesion of color that holds true throughout the rooms. – Elle Decor

Simplified Bee’s favorite design elements: the butler’s pantry in Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball, wrought-iron bed by Oscar de la Renta fitted with a canopy of silk in the master bedroom and layers of color & texture in the living room.

Designer Mark Sikes Hollywood Hills Home

The latest Lonny Magazine tours the beautiful 1920s home of interior designer Mark D. Sikes located in Southern California’s iconic Hollywood Hills. The interior is chic, multi-layered and sensible. Sikes makes it look effortless and I’m swooning with every page turn.

“It doesn’t feel like a ‘decorated’ house. It’s very organic and open. In fact, that’s the first change I made to the house after we bought it. I had all the doors rehung to open out.'” – Mark Sikes via Lonny
