Remodelista: The Organized Home

A stylish organized home is a cornerstone here at Simplified Bee. When I started my business and blog nearly a decade ago, I found a void between home organizers and interior designers. To bridge the gap and with the mission that homes could be orderly without sacrificing beauty, I set out to combine the disciplines of organization and design. The approach resonated with clients and readers.

Recently I received a copy of a newly released book, Remodelista: The Organized Home by Julie Carlson and Margot Guralnick of Remodelista. Their organizational philosophy is completely in line with my own – love! This beautiful book delivers hundreds of simple and clever tips for creating an orderly, inviting and beautiful home. The Remodelista duo covers every inch of a house – including rooms that get cluttered the most often – the entryway, kitchen, bedroom closet and laundry room.  To help inspire and teach, lists and charts with organizational tricks are accompanied by hundred of gorgeous photos. One of my personal favorites is Remodelista’s simple list of daily rituals:

I adore how this book advocates quality over quantity and stylish storage aids such as beautifully designed straw baskets, wall hooks and wooden peg rails. In addition, trays are a personal way I like to coral items and create visual order in kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms. Loving this kitchen example featured in the book:

I love this book – Remodelista: The Organized Home – and know you will too. It would be a great housewarming or new year’s gift too!

A Curated Look :: Houston Home

My favorite interior last week featured in Matchbook Magazine’s latest issue, was the beautiful home of Bailey and Pete McCarthy. After briefly living in Chicago and Austin, the husband and wife interior design team behind Biscuit Home and the Peppermint Bliss blog settled in Houston. For the home’s design, the couple incorporated  items they’ve been collecting as they moved from city to city. Their curated look is inviting, multi-layered and has a wonderful mix of period styles.

I will say I have never considered my style fearless. My style has evolved over the years and I think it has gotten better and more refined, but it really is just my style. I am flattered that people like it but I am always a little amused when the work is called “fearless”- like maybe I should be afraid of putting it out there because it is testing the boundaries of good taste? Whoopsies. – Bailey McCarthy

Organized, Functional Style: Medicine Cabinet

We load them up with cosmetics, dental supplies and of course medicine. To keep medicine cabinets neat and tidy its important that every item has a place.

Although, my medicine cabinet was functional, it lacked style {above}. So when the folks at Three by Three asked if wanted to test one of their organizing products, I jumped at the chance. I  knew that a trio of the Mini Magnetic Strips  add visual appeal while making the cabinet more efficient. They come in a rainbow of colors, but selected the hot blue because it worked best with our bathroom’s look.

Installing the strips took under 30 minutes and I did it all myself. Spot-on Magnetic Hooks were added to hold scissors, nail clippers and an eyelash curler. Magnetized spice canisters now hold barrettes, hair elastics and eye shadows. I love the way it functions and looks!
