Tom Scheerer Decorates – The Book

It’s creating a huge buzz and there’s good reason for it. Tom Scheerer Decorates, due out in September is the long-waited and first book of interior designer, Tom Scheerer’s work. His classic and as he puts it, “no nonsene” approach to design, is reminiscent of design icons such as Albert Hadley, David Hicks and Billy Baldwin. From Manhattan apartments to Bahamian seaside cottages, the book showcases Scheerer’s exquisite, confident and always perfectly balanced creations. They all contain a seamless blend of classical design elements with crisp, modern touches. All are inviting, livable and feel natural. Scheerer makes decorating look effortless, which we all know is far from the truth.  Many of the images featured in the book have already caused a pinning frenzy and you’ll see why.

His sophistication is extreme, but it is accessible, relaxed, and a touch “under-baked,” as Scheerer says, because he thinks the smartest rooms are always a little underdecorated.” –  Mimi Read, author of Tom Scheerer Decorates

Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House :: Chinoiserie Foyer

Interior Designer, Mary Linn Coldiron of Coldiron Interiors creates a stunning entry for the Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House in Woodside, California. The two-story foyer features beautiful quarter-saw wood paneling, a wall of French doors and a grand staircase. Under layers of paint and paper the original French wallpaper with Chinoiserie bamboo motif was discovered and restored. The wallpaper’s blue hue was repeated in the rug, accessories and wall leading to the second floor. Bamboo furnishings and blue and white Chinese pottery add to the room’s chic Chinoiserie style. In the room’s center, an elegant settee in tangerine velvet is paired with a resting dog statue and charming hoofed side tables.

Hopefully you get the opportunity (if in the San Francisco Bay Area) to tour this gorgeous Woodside estate. It’s only open one more week until May 24th, so don’t delay!

And in case you missed it, here’s a tour of the Show House’s Guest Bedroom , Mother-in-Law Suite and Card Room.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Interior Designer, Angie Hranowsky’s Home + Weekend Reads

I’ve long been a fan of Charleston, South Carolina-based  interior designer, Angie Hranowky. The former graphic designer mixes pattern and color effortlessly. I especially like Angie’s style because it feels so personal, inviting and organic. When I heard that her new pad (a charming historic 1850’s home) was being featured in the latest Lonny Magazine, I just knew I’d love it. And indeed I did. Angie’s renting the home which has it’s challenges for anyone (including designers), yet she pulls it off amazingly. As you will see the window treatment, wall paint and lighting fixtures she selected make a huge impact in the space. In the article, Angie gives great tips on making a rental your own.

It’s Friday… one of my favorite days of the week. Over the weekend I’ll be diving into more shelter magazines and blogs. I thought I’d share a few links to blog articles I enjoyed this past week.
