Round-up :: Kids Room Ideas

Full of life, love and laughter – I’m a fan of children’s spaces. Decorating for your little one doesn’t have to be overly cutesy or themed. Infusing some grown-up touches through furnishings, artwork or textiles can help add a sophistication to the space that helps it stand the test of time. Today I’ve round-up some fresh kids room ideas that feature design elements that both kiddos and parents will love.
star wars bedroom // boys' bedroom

This sweet bedroom by Joni of Lay Baby Lay showcases the boy’s love of Star Wars (fun artwork!). I love the modern touches and that the theme is subtle.
kids bedroom + book wall #kids

The book wall is this gender neutral kids’ bedroom is darling – it would also work behind a desk in a home office! The room designed by Jillian Scott was spotted in Rue Magazine.

Bunk beds are a great option for smaller kids’ bedrooms. I love this navy bunks with privacy curtains & brass rails in a Manhattan apartment decorated by Elena Frampton and seen in Architectural Digest. So sharp!

modern nursery // painterly wallpaper

Don’t you love this fun painterly wallpaper?! It’s just darling as an accent in this baby’s nursery by Sarah for A Beautiful Mess.

I’m also loving the neutral herringbone wallpaper featured in this sweet girl’s nursery room by Studio McGee. The timeless plaid upholstered bench adds a fun play on pattern too.

This Southwestern chic bunk room features a fun hanging chair, tiered bunks and super fun cactus wall detail (it was a diy project!). Spotted also on A Beautiful Mess.

Design Reveal :: My Home

Today I’m thrilled to share a very personal space: my home. Recently I welcomed a favorite online shelter magazine, Rue to take a tour of our ranch-style home located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The design has been a work in progress for over a decade (I’m never really done!). When we first moved in we tackled renovating the kitchen, bathrooms and landscaping front & back. In the last year as you may know, we added a master bedroom suite. Here’s a look…

I hope you enjoyed a little peak into my home – pop over to Rue Magazine to see the entire feature. And a big thank you to the Rue team including Crystal Palecek (founder/editor-in-chief), Julia Robbs (photographer) and Shoko Wanger (writer) who made the whole process so fun. You’re the best!

happy decorating,

cristin

Girls Flamingo Bedroom & Caitlin Wilson Textiles

girls' bedroom with flamingo wallpaper and caitlin wilson textiles // simplified bee design

It’s been months in the making, but our new home addition is in its final stages. The master suite was all new construction, but some rooms were reconfigured. One such room was the bedroom of one of my kiddos. She’s an animal lover and can be found most of the time in the backyard talking to our hens. She has even knit them scarves. So it was totally in her wheel house to select a pink flamingo wallpaper for her new room (yes, there are tons of flamingos and yes, it’s adorable).  Pinks, corals and gray. Loved this color palette and looked to Caitlin Wilson Textiles first when sourcing throw pillows for her bed. I was in the process of narrowing down sizes and patterns when I received an email from Caitlin’s assistant asking if I like to review some throw pillows. (what?! I almost fell out of my chair.) It reminded me of the times when I would pick up the phone to call my mom, but she was already on the line because she was calling me.

So, of course I said yes and selected the Coral Fretwork and Greige Deco pillow. They are even more beautiful in person. The Coral Fretwork pillow has tiny gold metallic threads that create just the right sparkle. Love!

If you haven’t been introduced to Caitlin’s gorgeous pillow collection, I’ve selected a few of my current faves.

Caitlin Wilson Pillows

All my patterns can be juxtaposed for a bold, edgy look- I want you to have fun with the process! – Cailtin Wilson

Thank you Caitlin for helping make my daughter’s room so special!

happy decorating,

cristin

Girl Bedroom Ideas :: Kerry Hanson Design

elegant entryway with roman shade - Kerry Hanson Design

Inviting, crisp and new-traditional is how I would describe Kerry Hanson’s work. Based out of New Canaan, Connecticut the interior design has a wonderful way with color, mixing patterns (some amazing fabrics used throughout!) and blending period styles (love her chinoiserie touches here and there). I especially enjoy the beautiful spaces she designed for little girls. All have timeless looks that can transition into the teenage years. All incorporate gorgeous textiles. And all are sweet, yet still sophisticated.  Here are a few of my favorites from Kerry’s portfolio to inspire and give you lots of girl bedroom ideas…
