Round-up :: Kids Room Ideas

Full of life, love and laughter – I’m a fan of children’s spaces. Decorating for your little one doesn’t have to be overly cutesy or themed. Infusing some grown-up touches through furnishings, artwork or textiles can help add a sophistication to the space that helps it stand the test of time. Today I’ve round-up some fresh kids room ideas that feature design elements that both kiddos and parents will love.

This sweet bedroom by Joni of Lay Baby Lay showcases the boy’s love of Star Wars (fun artwork!). I love the modern touches and that the theme is subtle.

The book wall is this gender neutral kids’ bedroom is darling – it would also work behind a desk in a home office! The room designed by Jillian Scott was spotted in Rue Magazine.

Bunk beds are a great option for smaller kids’ bedrooms. I love this navy bunks with privacy curtains & brass rails in a Manhattan apartment decorated by Elena Frampton and seen in Architectural Digest. So sharp!

I’m also loving the neutral herringbone wallpaper featured in this sweet girl’s nursery room by Studio McGee. The timeless plaid upholstered bench adds a fun play on pattern too.

This Southwestern chic bunk room features a fun hanging chair, tiered bunks and super fun cactus wall detail (it was a diy project!). Spotted also on A Beautiful Mess.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: Cheerful Girls Bedroom

girls bedroom // ann lowengart interiors // san francisco decorator showcase

Another room that caught my eye in this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase is the cheerful girl’s bedroom by Annie Lowengart of Ann Lowengart Interiors. “Smoll’s Room Redux” is a modern twist on the designer’s sister’s childhood bedroom. Lowengart takes a classic pink and orange color combination and adds a contemporary, chic twist using playful patterns and unexpected accent colors. However, the modern brass chandelier and colorful, geometric ceiling wallpaper (from the Flavor Paper) steals the show. I’m completely smitten with this bedroom as any little girl would be too!

Clever Ideas for Wallpaper

Many homeowners shy away from incorporating wallpaper in their home because it can be a commitment and pricey. If you’ve been hesitate about using wallpaper for these reasons, I’ve rounded up a few clever ideas for wallpaper that don’t require quite the commitment and won’t break the bank.

wallpapered closet doors #wallpaperCovering your closet doors in wallpaper can add a pop of color, texture and pattern to your bedroom. I’m loving the grasscloth featured on these closet doors in a bedroom by Lauren Ranes.
wallpapered desk drawer #wallpaper

Lining drawers with wallpaper is a fun way to add some whimsy to a desk, vanity or dresser. This is a great way to use up remnants like Jess Lively did with this project.

wallpaper the ceiling // girls bedroom

Wallpapering an angled ceiling is a great was to enhance your home’s architecture, while adding some fun color and pattern in a space. This darling girl’s bedroom above by Hosue of Jade is a terrific example.
wallpapered kids closet

Wallpapering the back wall of a closet is also a great way to incorporate wallpaper without a huge commitment. How sweet is this girl’s closet by The Sweetest Home Digs using Graham & Brown’s Isabelle Blue?

wallpapered lampshade #wallpaper

Another clever way to incorporate wallpaper is smaller doses is to wrap a lampshade or drum pendant. These DIY versions by Minted.com were created for a party. So sweet!

Color Crush :: Pale Pink

pale pink nursery // caitlin creer

Known to represent kindness and remind us of those sweet flamingos, the color pink comes in many shades. Although I love them all, lately  I’ve most drawn to the hue’s pale, pink side that is often featured in a baby girl’s nursery like the one by Caitlin Creer above. The fresh and cool shade of pink is also popping up in other areas of the home as a primary or accent color. Pale pink takes on a modern, sophistication when paired with a darker hues like black, navy and green.
