Have you had a chance to see the sweet floral nursery by Emily Henderson? The LA-based designer created the girly, girl room for Lulu & Georgia founder, Sara Sugarman and her new baby girl. The custom designed floral wallpaper on pink ground was designed just for this space (my favorite detail in the space!) The large scale floral pattern with leafy ferns and blooming peonies has an old Hollywood Regency feel that’s undeniable. The color chartreuse was pulled from the wallpaper and repeated in solid velvet drapery and a bench cushion. Love, love, love!
Many homeowners shy away from incorporating wallpaper in their home because it can be a commitment and pricey. If you’ve been hesitate about using wallpaper for these reasons, I’ve rounded up a few clever ideas for wallpaper that don’t require quite the commitment and won’t break the bank.
Covering your closet doors in wallpaper can add a pop of color, texture and pattern to your bedroom. I’m loving the grasscloth featured on these closet doors in a bedroom by Lauren Ranes.
Lining drawers with wallpaper is a fun way to add some whimsy to a desk, vanity or dresser. This is a great way to use up remnants like Jess Lively did with this project.
Wallpapering an angled ceiling is a great was to enhance your home’s architecture, while adding some fun color and pattern in a space. This darling girl’s bedroom above by Hosue of Jade is a terrific example.
Wallpapering the back wall of a closet is also a great way to incorporate wallpaper without a huge commitment. How sweet is this girl’s closet by The Sweetest Home Digs using Graham & Brown’s Isabelle Blue?
Another clever way to incorporate wallpaper is smaller doses is to wrap a lampshade or drum pendant. These DIY versions by Minted.com were created for a party. So sweet!
We are in the planning cycle of designing a new kitchen and great room for our 1940s home. If all goes well, we will start construction this spring.
With so many decisions to be made for the renovation, I turn to Pinterest – my favorite destination for endless inspiration and a fabulous place to organize all of my ideas.
Here are a few of my most popular home decor pins from the last few weeks:
Happy 2016! I hope you had a joyful, relaxing holiday. Although sick for a good week, I was able to enjoy a white Christmas in our new home. There is something so magical about quiet snow falling, a crackling fire and spending quality time with family. It was a wonderful way to end 2015.
With a look at the year ahead, I thought it would be fun to ask several interiors designers what decor trends they think will dominate in 2016. To kick off the series today is Northern California designer, Julie Rootes who is predicting we will continue to be mad for plaid. I agree and am loving the revival in the classic pattern.
Even though plaid is trending big time in the fashion world from shirts to shoes to everything in between, plaid is holding its own in the world of interiors. I find it can give the perfect kick to any space while still maintaining its traditional roots. From a small accessory like a pillow to decorating an entire room – a la Scot Meacham Wood (image above via Traditional Home) – it packs the perfect punch. – Julie Rootes
