Kitchen Design Crush

A kitchen doesn’t have to be massive to be functional and beautiful. This all white kitchen designed by Jute Home is a perfect example. With the custom cabinetry well planned out, the space has room to accommodate gourmet appliances and touches. Although not enough room for an island, a peninsula does the job of housing the under-mount sink and barstools for three.

Here you can get a better look at the chic marble chevron backsplash and all white countertops (most likely a quartz). Love the open shelving too. They help break up the space visually.

Drinking tea is a daily ritual for me, so I love this last image. 🙂

Isn’t’ this a lovely designed kitchen? And if Jute Home sounds familiar, it might be because  Simplified Bee featured their lovely family kitchen for the San Francisco Showcase.

Design Crush: Eric Olsen Design

coastal southern california home

I recently came across the portfolio of Southern California architect and designer, Eric Olsen. I’m in love. He creates beautiful, traditional homes with a fresh, contemporary feel. Many of his projects feature gorgeous aged wood ceilings, paneling and cabinetry that give a wonderful earthiness to the space. One project referred to as “Port Streets”, is a favorite. Pictured above, the home has a relaxed California style I adore. The backyard patio with fireplace is a stunner too. Take a peek for yourself!

Kitchen Pantry Ideas

gray butler's pantry #kitchens

A beautiful, functional butler’s pantry. It’s a space most of us only dream of having. While not all homes have the space or layout for a large butler’s pantry, most kitchens can incorporate a pantry. They can be designed in a variety of ways and sizes. Some are located in a side closet and separated by a door, while others are in a hallway just off the kitchen. One of my favorite pantry style is built-in and a central part of the kitchen itself.

Here are just a few kitchen pantry ideas …

kitchen pantry ideas

This built-in pantry by Brayer Design has the look and feel of a refrigerator. Love the racks on the cabinet door for spices and smaller items.

Here is a similar pantry by Leslie Ann Abbott that is flush with the refrigeration units.

kitchen pantry under the stairs

The space underneath a stairwell sometimes goes unused. In this kitchen by Mark Williams Design Associates a clever and very stylish pantry is created giving a little more storage.

Spotted on Pinterest, I love this pantry with arched cabinetry doors. Makes a lovely architectural statement.

colorful kitchen pantry

A hallway can also be a great place for a pantry. Love this one by Karen Swanson. The colorful cabinetry and patterned wallpaper is so playful next to the all white kitchen.

Inspired? Me too.

Kitchen Design Crush :: Lauren Liess

I’ve loved watching Lauren Liess’ career explode over the past few years. Having had the pleasure of meeting Lauren at a design conference in LA., I can say she is super down-to-earth, approachable and beautiful. Just like her interiors!

Lauren Liess Designs

In the last year Lauren opened Lauren Liess & Co., an interior design studio and home furnishings boutique in Virginia and launched the textile company, Lauren Liess Textiles. She did this all while raising her adorable three young boys (Christian, Justin and one-year-old Luke) and doing a huge renovation on her own home. Can we say super woman?! Her new home graced the pages of the latest Domino Magazine. It’s amazing. The open modern, yet rustic kitchen is a standout and gives you a great peek into the beautiful juxtapositions Lauren achieves so effortlessly in her designs.

The rusted iron opening shelving flanking the oven’s hood caught my attention first. They are so unexpected. Love, love, love! She also pairs modern white perimeter base cabinets topped with black soapstone with an island wrapped in reclaimed wood and topped with clean white marble. Although contrasting Lauren achieves a relaxed balance kitchen design that’s pleasing to the eye.

To make the sink area a focal point in the kitchen, Lauren created a whimsical art wall. Daring? Of course! She’s breaking all the “rules” here, but I love the result. Speaking of silly rules, did you notice Lauren didn’t add a backsplash and mixed hardware finishes throughout?

I mixed  a variety of metals throughout the space for a relaxed collected feel- brass, iron, stainless steel, galvanized steel, bronze and more.  My husband, David, found the antique apothecary drawer pulls on ebay. – Lauren Liess via Pure Style Home Blog

To display barware, vases and serving ware, Lauren hung butcher block shelving from Ikea next to the refrigerator. The wood gives the space a little warmth that contrasts nicely with the dark, honed soapstone perimeter countertop

Here is a look at the kitchen from the living room that sits right off of it. As you can see, Lauren continues her relaxed, layered approach here to. It’s so friendly, just like Lauren.
