Designer Crush :: Megan Tagliaferri

Known for her glitzy hotel and casino interiors in Vegas, Megan Tagliaferri of FLO Design Studio describes her own personal aesthetic as “California mod spiritual.” In her Belmont Shores of Long Beach home, she blends a mix of earthy, yet glamorous boho style. Tagliaferri brilliantly layers rich patterns throughout using designer wallcoverings, Moroccan textiles and vintage furnishings. Although high glam, the rooms are cozy, inviting and laid-back. It’s the perfect interior for the relaxed SoCal waterfront lifestyle Tagliaferri and her family were seeking. Take a peek!

Book Review :: Windsor Smith HOMEFRONT

Her interiors are glamorous, yet practical; sophisticated, yet relaxed. She strikes the perfect balance. I’m talking about A-list interior designer, Windsor Smith. She is simply one of the best in the business and so it’s no surprise that her first book, HOMEFRONT (Rizzoli) is absolutely fantastic. Filled with over 200 inspiring images, Smith walks through her process for creating beautiful, functional spaces from design intuition to the home in balance. In the book’s introduction, she explains her goal is to “design beautiful rooms for the way people today actually use them, regardless of their intended purpose, breaking the rules as to how a room ‘should’ function.” Her approach of creating livable spaces in every corner of the home resonates with me. Take a look at just some of the gorgeous images that grace the pages of this book and I think you’ll agree too.

A home in balance is masculine and feminine, antique and modern, light and dark, austere and glam, rustic and sophisticated – all these things in perfect harmony. – Windsor Smith

I’m like an unruly child when it comes to design. There’s always a point where I say: “What if this weren’t the dining room?” – Windsor Smith

Five Favorites :: Fabulous Entryways

Entryways offer us first glimpses into a home. It’s where we welcome guests and in some cases store such things as coats, purses, keys  and mail.  Entryway design takes planning if you want to it to be both beautiful and functional, so I’ve rounded up a few fabulous entryways that do both.

Speaking of chinoiserie touches, here’s another fabulous entryway by Chloe Warner via Lonny. It’s on the small side, but so chic and functional! Love the mix of masculine and feminine, pattern and color too.

Small Entryway Ideas

Entryways can serve many functions. They offer the first glimpse into our homes and are where we welcome guests. For many it’s also a drop zone for such things as coats, purses, keys  and mail.  If your entryway is on the smaller side,  it may take some planning to achieve the function and organization you desire, while still reflecting your home’s style. Before purchasing furniture and accessories, measure the space and take into account your family’s daily routine to see what items would work best in the space. Do you need seating to put on your shoes? Hooks for bags? A basket for mittens? When selecting paint colors or wallpaper for the space, consider taking hues from the color scheme used in adjacent rooms such as the living room. This way your home will have a better flow.

To inspire you, I’ve selected some fabulous small entryway ideas that may consider for your home.
