Round-up :: Kids Room Ideas

Full of life, love and laughter – I’m a fan of children’s spaces. Decorating for your little one doesn’t have to be overly cutesy or themed. Infusing some grown-up touches through furnishings, artwork or textiles can help add a sophistication to the space that helps it stand the test of time. Today I’ve round-up some fresh kids room ideas that feature design elements that both kiddos and parents will love.
star wars bedroom // boys' bedroom

This sweet bedroom by Joni of Lay Baby Lay showcases the boy’s love of Star Wars (fun artwork!). I love the modern touches and that the theme is subtle.
kids bedroom + book wall #kids

The book wall is this gender neutral kids’ bedroom is darling – it would also work behind a desk in a home office! The room designed by Jillian Scott was spotted in Rue Magazine.

Bunk beds are a great option for smaller kids’ bedrooms. I love this navy bunks with privacy curtains & brass rails in a Manhattan apartment decorated by Elena Frampton and seen in Architectural Digest. So sharp!

modern nursery // painterly wallpaper

Don’t you love this fun painterly wallpaper?! It’s just darling as an accent in this baby’s nursery by Sarah for A Beautiful Mess.

I’m also loving the neutral herringbone wallpaper featured in this sweet girl’s nursery room by Studio McGee. The timeless plaid upholstered bench adds a fun play on pattern too.

southwest chic // girl's bedroom // kids room ideas

This Southwestern chic bunk room features a fun hanging chair, tiered bunks and super fun cactus wall detail (it was a diy project!). Spotted also on A Beautiful Mess.

Shades of Gray Home Decor

From charcoal to slate, cadet to pewter, smoky to mousy. The many shades of gray is quite vast, sophisticated and yet neutralizing. A mixture of black and white, the trending color has been hitting the fashion runways, surfaces in our homes and the pages of a very popular book (need I say more). Over the past couple years more and more of my clients have wanted to paint central living areas in soft shades of gray, cover counters in gray marble or stain cabinetry in rich gray tones. It’s a trend I personally love and I don’t see slowing down anytime soon.

To give you an idea of the range of shades and uses gray can offer, I’ve rounded up several inspiring images.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 :: Blue Boys Bedroom

The San Francisco Decorator Showcase for 2014, located at 3660 Jackson Street in the city’s upscale Presidio Heights neighborhood is open! Although I haven’t been able to tour it yet, I wanted to share some images of the darling boys bedroom by interior designer, Shelley Cahan of  Shelley & Company. Do you remember her dressing room in last year’s showhouse?

The retreat for the little gentleman is called “Little Boy Blu” and is inspired by a nostalgic sense of adventure. Both sophisticated and playful, the space is filled with rich patterns, muted shades of blue and vintage inspired furnishings and textiles (Restoration Hardware and Serena & Lily). The homeowners asked Shelley to keep the whimsical blue and white wallpaper by Pierre Frey which ended up be a launching point for the room’s design.

Decorative ceilings are the best and I love the aircraft blueprint inspired ceiling in this room. Such a fun way to inspire a little boy to dream, travel and see the world!

How cute is the “BLU” sign in the closet?!

Shelley has a beautiful way of layering and the dresser vignette above is a great example.

I’ll be sharing more of the San Francisco Decorator Showcase in the upcoming weeks, but if you are in the area I encourage you to tour the home. Here’s more details and how to purchase tickets.
