Holiday House Hamptons 2014 :: My Faves

Earlier this summer, Holiday House Hamptons at Watchcase in Sag Harbor opened its doors to the public. Showcasing eighteen talented interior designers, the prestigious design showhouse combines two of founder, Iris Dankner’s passions: interior design and fundraising for breast cancer research. This year Holiday House partnered with Hamptons Cottages and Gardens (HC&G) to deliver an inspiring design house which is actually a 19th century brick factory that’s now being converted into luxury condos. The grand industrial space set the stage for each designer to create a space themed around a holiday or special moment in their life. Here’s a look at some of my favorite spaces.

chinoiserie bedroom with foo dog lamps // Laura Tutun Interiors

I love a little touch of chinoiserie and this bedroom by interior designer, Laura Tutun has the perfect balance. The serene gray and white space features a beautiful mix of traditional and modern styles and both subtle and bold chinoiserie elements. One wall features a stunning gray and yellow mural wallpaper that is beautifully framed by windows covered in a Roman shades with a refined Greek key pattern. The foo dog lamp on the modern bedside table  is also a personal fave.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 :: The Master Bedroom

Like fashion shows for clothing designers, showhouses offer a platform for interior designers to incorporate cutting edge products, set trends and push boundaries. One such space that exemplifies this in the 2014 San Francisco Showcase is the master bedroom by Antonio Martins. The San Francisco-based interior designer boldly mixes traditional Portuguese tile, contemporary art and a 18th century antique bed passed down through generations. The result is simply stunning as it captures history and celebrates Portuguese culture in a modern manner.

To honor his heritage, an antique Portuguese Bilros bed, carefully preserved by Antonio’s family since the 18th century, commands attention and is the primary inspiration for the space. Made of “Pau-Santo,” an exotic rosewood, the design of the bed adheres to the strict guidelines of the period. “I have always loved this bed, which incorporates our family crest, and the Showcase was the perfect excuse to bring it to San Francisco,” says Antonio Martins.

In a bold move, Martins covered the wall in blue and white Portuguese tiles known as Azulejos. The 243 hand-painted tiles are a faithful copies of 18th century patterns and designs. To deliver a 21st century twist on traditional form and pattern, Antonio has expanded the tile size and shuffled the images to become a modern piece of art. Incredible.

On the sleek fireplace mantel sits two lucite boxes filled with personal letters (see below). Who knows what they say, but the romantic in me assuming they are all love letters passed down in the family. What a fun way to display such special notes!

Need some more does of the color blue? Here’s a tour of the little boy’s bedroom in this year’s showcase, in case you missed it. There is also plenty of time to still tour the estate and is open now through May 26th. Here’s more information on purchasing tickets.

One Kings Lane // Eclectic Decor Finds

It’s not always easy to create an eclectic look. Because it’s a style that can’t be pulled from one period style, catalog or manufacture, it can take time. However there is one site that I leverage frequently for clients and personally that allows me to purchase a mix of styles – it’s One Kings Lane. All of the items used in the mood board above were pulled from current sales going on right now at One Kings Lane. That’s right. Now what are you waiting for? Go shopping!

happy curating,

cristin

*Although One Kings Lane is an affiliate of Simplified Bee, my opinions are my own.
