Tom Scheerer Decorates – The Book

It’s creating a huge buzz and there’s good reason for it. Tom Scheerer Decorates, due out in September is the long-waited and first book of interior designer, Tom Scheerer’s work. His classic and as he puts it, “no nonsene” approach to design, is reminiscent of design icons such as Albert Hadley, David Hicks and Billy Baldwin. From Manhattan apartments to Bahamian seaside cottages, the book showcases Scheerer’s exquisite, confident and always perfectly balanced creations. They all contain a seamless blend of classical design elements with crisp, modern touches. All are inviting, livable and feel natural. Scheerer makes decorating look effortless, which we all know is far from the truth.  Many of the images featured in the book have already caused a pinning frenzy and you’ll see why.

Tom Scheerer Decorates - the book

His sophistication is extreme, but it is accessible, relaxed, and a touch “under-baked,” as Scheerer says, because he thinks the smartest rooms are always a little underdecorated.” –  Mimi Read, author of Tom Scheerer Decorates

Darling Boy’s Nursery Room

I adored this  darling boy’s nursery room by Joni Lay so much, I had to share it with you. She designed it for her nephew and has some really sweet elements. The neutral palette (walls in Sherwin Williams’ Mindful Gray) is  perfect for a calming nursery. The giraffe artwork above the crib offers a great pop of color. The print is actually from a page of an antique  book purchased on etsy. It was scanned and then re-printed at a much larger scale. So cute, right?

I also love that the changing table is a vintage dresser. Hanging above the changing table is a collections of family photos, graphic artwork, arrows and a darling triangle mobile made of leather. Love!

Getting Organized :: Mudrooms

We are sadly counting down the days until the kids go back to school (yes, we haven’t started yet!). As you know, there is a great deal of preparation that goes into getting children ready for the first days of school. Getting the kids organized also motivates me to tackle other areas of our home and has me dreaming of a room we don’t have. A mudroom. In California, we don’t need a space for snowy boots and over-sized coats, but it sure would be nice to have a drop zone for shoes, backpacks and sporting equipment.

Here are a few organized mudrooms that I’d welcome in my home any day!

Color coding cubbies for family members is a great way to organize a mudroom.

I really like this mudroom with open shelving and shoe storage on the stone flooring.

Organizing your home too? Remember the first step is to declutter! Conquering clutter isn’t easy, but here’s questions to ask yourself when decluttering.

Happy Organizing!
