DIY Valentine’s Day Decor Ideas

Do you decorate for Valentine’s Day? It’s okay, you don’t have to be shy about it. I do too. Valentine’s Day decor, unlike Christmas or even Halloween, is more subtle. It’s simple, and not overdone. It also doesn’t have to be expensive. For example, how cute are these DIY conversation heart pinatas made by DIY Studio?!

Design Reveal :: Blue and Orange Boys Bedroom

I’m thrilled to be sharing a peek into a boy’s bedroom I designed for a client’s son. Even though my client, Suzanne (also a friend and fabulous lifestyle photographer) lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, she choose my virtual design services. This gave her the design direction she was looking for, but the ability to purchase items herself and at her own pace.

Suzanne envisioned a “big boy” room that her son would enjoy now and through his teenage years. One way we achieved this was to select a neutral wall color – Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter. It’s a warm gray that gives the room a fresh, modern feel. While the rug, window treatments, furnishings and bedding pull traditional hues of blue and orange perfect for a boy any age.

To get a full appreciation for the transformation, I’ve included a look at the room before (below). There are actually two images – one of when it was a yellow nursery and the other more recent for the toddler years (although the paint color had already been changed for the new design).

My client’s son loves his new “big boy room.” The desk with locker-style drawers is his favorite – it’s just plain cool. On the other hand, I love the dark brown dresser with contrasting white pulls and the custom photo canvas above. The photograph taken by Suzanne of her son adds a pop of color and a personal touch to the space. Love!

If you are interested in the products used in this design, some of them are listed below… get the look

How does Simplified Bee’s Virtual Design work? Step one is to answer a detailed questionnaire that narrows down the client’s vision, style and budget. Next after a scheduled phone call and consultation with the homeowner, I will create a design delivered digitally that includes mood board(s), floor-plan(s), paint colors, budget/shopping tool, detailed product info and any additional instructions the client will need to finish the room. The client then has the opportunity make the design come to life by purchasing items directly from the shopping list and at their own pace. For more information and pricing, please contact me!

Happy decorating!

Whether you are re-decorating your living room, remodeling your kitchen or building from the ground up, house projects produce lots of receipts. Couple that with the purchases you make everyday and it can be hard to keep them all organized. Lucky for us, there’s now Ziploop – an exciting mobile shopping organizer app making paper-free shopping, saving and returns super simple.

Ziploop Mobile Shopping App

In addition to organizing receipts, Ziploop saves reward cards, discounts, and return deadlines (key when purchasing home goods!) allowing you to never miss a sale or discount! For all of you who’ve forgotten to bring a coupon with you to a store, Ziploop has a solution for that too. It gives you the ability to scan store coupons so that they are with you at all times. Brilliant, right? And if that’s not enough functionality for you, Ziploop lets you tag your receipts and rewards under multiple categories you create (i.e. kitchen, bath, gifts, school) so you know exactly what you’ve purchased for that home project, family event or school fundraiser! Love this!

New Traditional Interior Design by Courtney Giles

This weekend I caught up on reading some of my favorite shelter magazines. There was one house tour featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle that caught my eye. Atlanta-based Interior Designer, Courtney Giles transformed the historic 1911 four bedroom house for a young couple. Sticking with a neutral palette for the most part, Giles’ design blends traditional elements with fresh , modern accents – it’s what I refer to as new traditional interior design. The result is inviting, elegant and current.

The chinoiserie wallpaper in the powder room is dramatic and bold, but a fun choice for this small space.
