Friday Find :: nettle+fin textiles

What do you get when you cross the work of a marine biologist and a talented graphic designer? A fabulous textile line by nettle+fin. The company’s first textile line was completely inspired by microscopic images of beautiful, otherworldly creatures from the depths and the shallows of the warm oceans. It’s incredible to see how these tiny sea creatures could be the catalyst for such crisp, modern patterns. Giving each fabric its scientific name such as Hyplglossum, Rhipidosiphon and Ligora, nettle+fin educates us along the way too!

“Although we decided that our initial fabric patterns would focus on marine algae, we knew that we’d eventually like to expand our company to include pattern lines representing many different kinds of plants and animals.  Thus, we wanted a name that symbolized the flora and fauna of both the land and the water. Relatively quickly, we decided on “nettle” to represent plants and terrestrial-based organisms, and “fin” to represent animals and aquatic-based organisms.” – nettle+fin

Quilted Trend & ELLE Decor Tastemakers

In addition to geometric patterns, classic quilted motifs are trending in 2013. Delivering both texture and pattern, quilted home decor items such as fabrics, sofas and wallpaper are on the rise. Here are a few items the folks at ELLE Decor found setting the trend:

ELLE Decor asked bloggers and designers their take on quilted pieces and guess what? They ask me! (yippee!) I actually thought the email was spam at first and almost deleted it.  I’m glad I didn’t and am thrilled to be included in their Tastemakers’ Take on Trends.

Thank  you ELLE Decor – you made my day!

Rustic, Elegant Row House in Brooklyn

Recently Vogue featured the Brooklyn home of  landscape designer and Vogue Contributing Editor, Miranda Brooks and her architect husband, Bastien Halard. Lead by Harlard, the rundown row house was completely renovated from head to toe in just six months. The interior design is American pastoral with rustic, yet elegant touches. And although new, the rooms are inviting and have a lived in feel I love. Speaking of love, it was the custom de Gournay wallcovering in the master bedroom and hand-painted/printed wallpapers in the girls’ rooms that had me looking twice at this home. (swoon)

Isn’t this a charming garden seat? Designed by Brooks of course!
