Friday Find: Ankasa

The world of fashion and home decor often overlap. One influences the other as artists on each side push new boundaries. It’s particularly exciting to see designers cross fields successfully. And Fashion designers, Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia have done just that. Known as visionaries in the field of textiles, the design duo’s home brand, Ankasa is a big hit. Launched with the mantra that “luxurious fashion forward textiles could translate to any design aesthetic,” Ankasa features a gorgeous line of pillows, bedding, furniture and accessories. They also have opened two stores in Manhattan I’m dying to see in person. But, for now I’ve been swooning over their collection online.

Client Reveal :: Black, White & Gray Living Room

living room before

This was the living room of a darling client with young children. It’s where they spend the majority of their time (dancing to Wii, reading books and watching TV). It’s also the first room you see when you enter the home, so they wanted a more sophisticated, pulled together look. The black leather, kid-friendly sofas were the only items in the room that the family wanted to keep (although, the sofa table and round end table ended up working with the design).  Custom sofa pillows in Martyn Lawrence Bullard’s Darya Ikat cotton/linen fabric in stone for Schumacher was the inspiration for the room’s black, white and gray color palette. Everything from there just flowed naturally. They love the result and so do I…

My client’s husband grew up on the beaches of Southern California, so I wanted to include elements of the sea in the space. A series of coral prints by Kerri Shipp of Driftwood Interiors was selected, framed and hung above one of the sofas. It’s a simple, yet sophisticated look. Just want the family wanted!

Holiday House NYC 2012 :: My Faves

In it’s fifth year, Holiday House  is a holiday-themed designer showhouse benefiting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Twenty-seven top-tier interior designers were asked to decorate a room around any holiday theme (many non-traditional such as “everyday’s a holiday”). Over the course of several months, the designers transformed the masionary-like mansion at Two East 63rd Street on the Upper East Side of  New York City. From modern to traditional, each room has a look and feel of it’s own, yet all are so chic. I’ve pulled a few of my favorite images:

Contemporary Thanksgiving Table Setting

A few weeks ago the folks at Wayfair invited me and several other bloggers to participate in their Holiday Tablescape Challenge – of course I was game! The timing was perfect because I’ll be hosting  Thanksgiving this year and it gave me the opportunity to plan ahead. As part of the challenge, Wayfair sent me 5 items that I selected from a list of 12 to incorporate in the table setting.

A custom table runner in a chevron pattern fabric by Robert Allen inspired the silver, brown and chartreuse color scheme and the contemporary feel I was envisioning. I love the more subtle interpretation of this classic pattern and the pop of chartreuse is really fun. It pattern plays so nicely with the unscripted cowhide rug. For additional visual interest, I also layered several other materials including rattan, bronze and metallic silver. I loved the way the table turned out!

Here are the Wayfair products selected:

Ten Strawberry Street Square 10″ Dinner Plates (topped with chartreuse napkins)

David Shaw Silverware Urban Retreat Deconstructed Bowl (used for the floral centerpiece)

Achla Goblet Vase (filled with liquid amber leaves and pheasant feathers)

David Shaw Silverware Urban Retreat Rectangular Platter (topped with white pumpkins)

Fleur-de-Lis Two Tier Plate Stand in Antique White from Mesa Home  (perfect for pumpkin & red velvet cupcakes)

To follow the tablescape challenge, head to Wayfair’s blog or Holiday Challenge Pinterest board.

Happy holidays! (yep, I just said it!)
