Girl Bedroom Ideas :: Kerry Hanson Design

elegant entryway with roman shade - Kerry Hanson Design

Inviting, crisp and new-traditional is how I would describe Kerry Hanson’s work. Based out of New Canaan, Connecticut the interior design has a wonderful way with color, mixing patterns (some amazing fabrics used throughout!) and blending period styles (love her chinoiserie touches here and there). I especially enjoy the beautiful spaces she designed for little girls. All have timeless looks that can transition into the teenage years. All incorporate gorgeous textiles. And all are sweet, yet still sophisticated.  Here are a few of my favorites from Kerry’s portfolio to inspire and give you lots of girl bedroom ideas…

Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House :: Teen Girl’s Bedroom

For this year’s Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House interior Designer, Teri Pollard of Designworks Morgan Hill creates an equestrian chic bedroom room retreat for a tech-savvy teenage girl. With a view of the barn and meadow below, the knotty pine covered  bedroom gives a nod to the tack rooms and reflects the equestrian lifestyle of many teens living in Woodside, California. A laptop, large flat screen TV and “I love blogging” pillow tell us this Silicon Valley young lady equally enjoys writing a blog, posting on Facebook and pinning her favorite images.

Placed above the built-in bed and trundle, the framed horse show ribbons are a clever and elegant way to display a ribbon collection and protect it for years to come.

Colorful and feminine floor length drapes and other upholstery throughout the room help soften the room’s dominate knotty wood pine raised paneling.

Next to the desk, a black and white photograph of an girl with her horse is placed on an easel, while riding equipment sits below. It’s a lovely detail as well.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to tour this lovely Woodside estate. It’s only open until this Friday, May 24th.

And in case you missed it, here’s a tour of the Show House’s Guest Bedroom , Mother-in-Law Suite, Foyer and Card Room.

Happy Monday,

Cristin

Sneak Peek :: San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2013

In the last few months, twenty-seven leading West Coast interior design firms have transformed 2800 Pacific Avenue  into the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Known as “Herbst Manor,” the iconic 8,000+ square foot Georgian mansion is located atop San Francisco’s coveted Pacific Heights at the corner of Divisadero and Pacific. The elegant home features sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. Truly spectacular in and of itself.

Herbst Manor Showcase House 2013

Herbst Manor was built in 1899 by Ernest Coxhead, the architect for San Francisco’s Holy Innocents Episcopal Church as well as several other homes in Pacific Heights.  The estate has had four owners over the past 114 years, but was originally built in for Sarah Spooner, an avid art collector from Philadelphia. Spooner filled the home with her art collections which in most part was bequeathed to the San Francisco’s deYoung Museum following her death in 1914.  The home was purchased in 1906 – just before the great earthquake – by Herman Shainwald, a co-founder of Buckbee Thorne & Co., one of the primary real estate companies in the Bay Area.  In 1914, John MacGregor, president of Union Iron Works, purchased the home.  MacGregor was active citizen, serving on the Board of Supervisors and the Parks Commision and supporting the San Francisco Symphony and Boy Scouts. Abraham Gruhn and his wife Lee Herbst Gruhn, avid art collectors and supports of the deYoung, purchased the house in 1967.  Today, the home is owned by the Gruhn’s nephew and his wife, Mark and Karen Montoya.
