2016 Decor Trends :: Modern Southwest

Over the past few years I’ve seen a revival of southwestern decor. The color schemes today are more muted (thank goodness) and when paired with clean-lined modern elements, the look can be super chic. So I can see why Santa Barbara based interior designer, Leslie Lundgren is predicting that this “Modern Southwest” style will be a continued trend in decorating for 2016.

I have noticed a movement towards Modern Southwest but in a subtle, organic way… however, it’s in no way a repeat of the 80’s southwest. It may be on a textile or a pattern or even accessories as illustrated in Kelly Klein’s home above. – Leslie Lundgren, Interior Designer

As the fall months approach, it’s a great time to refresh your home. I’ve noticed that I’m gravitating to cool whites and deep indigo blues. Although not typically associated with the fall, the color palette is a great one for any season. It’s timeless. Here are a few swoon worthy fall favorites that caught my eye.

Design Trend :: Southwest Modern Decor

Navajo patterns. Feather artwork. Indoor cactus. I know you’ve spotted them too. Southwestern decor is trending, but with an fresh modern twist. Timeless Native American patterns have inspired a new generation of textiles (like the rug below from Domain), flooring (like the tile above from Curbly) and home decor products that are being incorporated in a variety of dwellings from urban to rural. The earthy desert palettes with pops of bright color here and there is perfect to incorporate with modern and transitional furnishings for a chic boho look.

Known for her glitzy hotel and casino interiors in Vegas, Megan Tagliaferri of FLO Design Studio describes her own personal aesthetic as “California mod spiritual.” In her Belmont Shores of Long Beach home, she blends a mix of earthy, yet glamorous boho style. Tagliaferri brilliantly layers rich patterns throughout using designer wallcoverings, Moroccan textiles and vintage furnishings. Although high glam, the rooms are cozy, inviting and laid-back.
