Kitchen Design Crush

A kitchen doesn’t have to be massive to be functional and beautiful. This all white kitchen designed by Jute Home is a perfect example. With the custom cabinetry well planned out, the space has room to accommodate gourmet appliances and touches. Although not enough room for an island, a peninsula does the job of housing the under-mount sink and barstools for three.

Here you can get a better look at the chic marble chevron backsplash and all white countertops (most likely a quartz). Love the open shelving too. They help break up the space visually.

Drinking tea is a daily ritual for me, so I love this last image. 🙂

Isn’t’ this a lovely designed kitchen? And if Jute Home sounds familiar, it might be because  Simplified Bee featured their lovely family kitchen for the San Francisco Showcase.

Design Crush :: Lulu DK

LuLu DK butterfly table runner and pink peonies // fiesta ideas

A few years ago a butterfly fabric by Lulu deKwaitkowski for Schumacher inspired the color palette and theme for a family party. I spotted the playful pattern in another textile of Lulu’s that was used to cover walls. It’s hard to see from the image below, but the fabric is a gorgeous linen and the butterflies are in shades of blue with gold metallic accents. It is quite striking.

The image, found on Lulu’s blog reminded of how much I love her aesthetic – colorful, chic and always inviting. Her sophisticated, yet relaxed style is a result of her polar upbringing in bustling Manhattan and the laid-back beach lifestyle of the Hamptons and Bahamas. It’s most apparent in her LULU DK collections of fabrics, rugs, bedding, artwork and other decor items.

Lulu always hand draws and paints her motifs and patterns before they are transformed into beautiful textiles. Her artwork is stunning!

Recently, Lulu launched a line of adorable wall decals. My fave are the butterflies. So cute for a baby’s nursery, don’t you think?

gold removable tattoos // LULU DK #tattoos

I’ve never been a tattoo girl, but Lulu’s new metallic jewelry tattoos are so chic. Available in gold, silver or black the tattoos will last about 4 days in and out of the water. I just might have to try them out this summer!

happy decorating,

cristin

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 :: The Master Bedroom

Like fashion shows for clothing designers, showhouses offer a platform for interior designers to incorporate cutting edge products, set trends and push boundaries. One such space that exemplifies this in the 2014 San Francisco Showcase is the master bedroom by Antonio Martins. The San Francisco-based interior designer boldly mixes traditional Portuguese tile, contemporary art and a 18th century antique bed passed down through generations. The result is simply stunning as it captures history and celebrates Portuguese culture in a modern manner.

To honor his heritage, an antique Portuguese Bilros bed, carefully preserved by Antonio’s family since the 18th century, commands attention and is the primary inspiration for the space. Made of “Pau-Santo,” an exotic rosewood, the design of the bed adheres to the strict guidelines of the period. “I have always loved this bed, which incorporates our family crest, and the Showcase was the perfect excuse to bring it to San Francisco,” says Antonio Martins.

In a bold move, Martins covered the wall in blue and white Portuguese tiles known as Azulejos. The 243 hand-painted tiles are a faithful copies of 18th century patterns and designs. To deliver a 21st century twist on traditional form and pattern, Antonio has expanded the tile size and shuffled the images to become a modern piece of art. Incredible.

On the sleek fireplace mantel sits two lucite boxes filled with personal letters (see below). Who knows what they say, but the romantic in me assuming they are all love letters passed down in the family. What a fun way to display such special notes!

Need some more does of the color blue? Here’s a tour of the little boy’s bedroom in this year’s showcase, in case you missed it. There is also plenty of time to still tour the estate and is open now through May 26th. Here’s more information on purchasing tickets.

One trend that has taken flight is the use of feathers and feather patterns in home decor. Whether real, drawn or manufactured, they add an exotic feel to any space and are being featured in a wide variety of home decor items like rugs, lighting and wallpaper. I personally love the look.
