San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2013 :: Dressing Room by Shelley & Co.

Now that you’ve seen a Sneak Peek at the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, I know you want to see more! Today we will be taking a tour of a small, but  highly functional coveted space; the walk-in closet.

The Dressing Room, just off the teen girl’s bedroom was designed by Shelley Cahan of Shelley & Company Interior Design. It’s très chic! And believe me, no detail was overlooked!

“This dressing room is a nod to the glamour of a bygone era where getting ready for dinner was an extravagant routine in itself.” – Shelley Cahan

The luxurious custom closets by SOZO Studio are upholstered in a gray herringbone fabric. The soft touch is really a juxtaposition to the masculine pattern. It’s a lovely touch. The white upholstered chair designed by Ironies is layered with colorful ikat and needlepoint pillows and a burnt orange throw.

The black and white geometric wallpaper (Kravet) is paired a crisp white Roman shade with a timeless Greek key trim.

The large tassel light pendant by Arteriors as just another touch of glamour in the space.

Don’t you just love this intimate, glamorous dressing room? I know I want one 🙂

Happy Friday,

Cristin

Interior Design Trend :: Ferns

1940's banana leaf wallpaper in Beverly Hills Hotel

Leafy botanical patterns are clearly trending right now. The banana leaf motif made famous by Harry Hinson’s iconic 1940’s Martinique wallpaper that’s all over the Beverly Hills Hotel is making a huge comeback. From home to fashion, the classic pattern is showing up everywhere. Even on iPhone covers (the one below is by Milly).

Although not as popular as the banana leaf, another trendy little green plant is the fern. This shade loving plane is much more refined in nature than it’s broad leaf friend, yet is also a fresh take on the color of the year. Over the past year I’ve noticed more and more fern patterns in interiors, like this bedroom designed by Tom Sheerer.

I’ve pulled together a few beautiful home decor items featuring ferns:

Of course there is nothing like adding a live fern or two to your home. They help naturally purify the air and Lauren from Pure Style Home swears they are the easiest plant to keep (this is her former living room above). If you are curious as to which variety of fern may be best indoors, BHG has a great article discussing their favorites.

On a final note, my thoughts and prayers are with the victims and families effected by the horrific terrorist attack in Boston on Monday. I feel as if our nation’s wound from 9/11 has been torn open. May we all strive for peace within and with one another.

Happy Chic by Jonathan Alder JCPenney

jonathan adler at jcpenney

Have you checked out Jonathan Adler’s new “Happy Chic” collection at J.C. Penney? The two mega brands have partnered to created a shop-within-a-store.  Adler’s exclusive “Happy Chic” shops  feature colorful, fresh and of course chic decor items that sell for as much as half of Adler’s higher-end line. For example, “Happy Chic” sofas at JCP are $1,850, compared with $4,000 for the signature collection. I’m assuming the Adler’s signature collection is of higher quality, but in some instances price wins out.

Check out some of my faves…
