Book Review :: Suzanne Tucker Interiors – The Romance of Design

San Francisco’s award winning interior designer, Suzanne Tucker co-founder of Tucker & Marks Design is hailed for developing elegant, enchanting and always perfectly balanced spaces. Her timeless designs are inviting and draw us in with layered art and antiques transitioning between classic and contemporary, casual and formal.

Following the huge success of her first book, Rooms to Remember, I was thrilled to learn of Suzanne’s newest publication to be released October 15th. Suzanne Tucker Interiors: The Romance of Design by Monacelli Press is truly inspiring. Suzanne offers readers a view into her design process and intimate glimpses into her clients’ luxurious homes (including Tucker’s own home). With over 280 stunning images, selecting ones to share with you was the hardest part of of this review, however here are a few of my favorites:

Design Crush :: Purple Girls Room

teen girls bedroom room plum and purple

How cute is this big girl’s bedroom for 8 year old Gigi, the daughter of Pam Ginocchio (co-founder of Project Nursery) I first spotted on Pinterest? Pam teamed up with Serena & Lily on the room’s fresh, fun and feminine design. Gigi herself requested the crisp purple palette – so sweet.

teen girls modern bedroom dresser

The glossy white mosaic mirror looks great hung above a sleek dresser and contrasts nicely with the wall’s Shale paint color.

teen girls modern desk in bedroom

A white Parsons desk is paired with a fun apple green bentwood chair – love the mix of styles here!

striped ceiling wallpaper in girls bedroom

On the ceiling a bold wide stripe wallpaper in plum from Serena & Lily’s new wallpaper collection was selected. It’s a fabulous, dramatic choice for room which features 14 foot ceilings.

rattan hanging chair - girls bedroom

Love, love, love the 60’s inspired rattan hanging chair with plum herringbone throw! Such a fun spot for Gigi to relax, read and daydream.

teen girls bedroom bedside table

Serena & Lily’s timeless Pondicherry upholstered bed with nailhead  was selected for the bed and is topped with the Kite Sheet Set and the Berry Border Duvet and Shams. A curvy bedside table is topped with a whimsical bird lamp, while a woven white basket placed on the bottom shelf is perfect for organizing Gigi’s small collections. The plush white rug is super chic and adds a wonderful texture to the space.

It’s a fabulous purple girls room I’m sure Gigi is going to love for years to come!

Girl Bedroom Ideas :: Kerry Hanson Design

elegant entryway with roman shade - Kerry Hanson Design

Inviting, crisp and new-traditional is how I would describe Kerry Hanson’s work. Based out of New Canaan, Connecticut the interior design has a wonderful way with color, mixing patterns (some amazing fabrics used throughout!) and blending period styles (love her chinoiserie touches here and there). I especially enjoy the beautiful spaces she designed for little girls. All have timeless looks that can transition into the teenage years. All incorporate gorgeous textiles. And all are sweet, yet still sophisticated.  Here are a few of my favorites from Kerry’s portfolio to inspire and give you lots of girl bedroom ideas…

Tom Scheerer Decorates – The Book

It’s creating a huge buzz and there’s good reason for it. Tom Scheerer Decorates, due out in September is the long-waited and first book of interior designer, Tom Scheerer’s work. His classic and as he puts it, “no nonsene” approach to design, is reminiscent of design icons such as Albert Hadley, David Hicks and Billy Baldwin. From Manhattan apartments to Bahamian seaside cottages, the book showcases Scheerer’s exquisite, confident and always perfectly balanced creations. They all contain a seamless blend of classical design elements with crisp, modern touches. All are inviting, livable and feel natural. Scheerer makes decorating look effortless, which we all know is far from the truth.  Many of the images featured in the book have already caused a pinning frenzy and you’ll see why.

Tom Scheerer Decorates - the book

His sophistication is extreme, but it is accessible, relaxed, and a touch “under-baked,” as Scheerer says, because he thinks the smartest rooms are always a little underdecorated.” –  Mimi Read, author of Tom Scheerer Decorates
