San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014: Boy’s Bedroom

Another charming kids space in this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase was created by local design firm, Regan Baker Design.  The little boy’s bedroom (aka Little Roamers Room) was inspired by Regan Baker’s own children’s love of building forts.

Taking center stage is a darling denim tent hung from the ceiling. It can even be expand across the room to create a giant playhouse. How fun is that! I also love the hanging lantern centered inside the tent. So darn cute!

Here’s a closer look at the bed layered in throw pillows, wool blanket and bed sheets from Serena & Lily. Love that sweet stuffed chicken too and animal pocket dolls from Coral & Tusk!

The homeowner asked Regan to incorporate the existing 1970s wallpaper. The zig zag parade of animals in orange and white inspired the tribal artwork and southwestern inspired textiles also found throughout the space.

How cute is the closet with map wallpaper, arrows and darling clothing from Tea Collection?

The showhouse is open through May 26th, so there is still time for you to tour. Also, for more information on this boy’s room, visit Regan’s blog!

Friday Finds :: Feather Patterns in Home Decor

disclosure: This post contains an affiliate links, which means Simplified Bee receives commission if you make a purchase using this link.

One trend that has taken flight is the use of feathers and feather patterns in home decor. Whether real, drawn or manufactured, they add an exotic feel to any space and are being featured in a wide variety of home decor items like rugs, lighting and wallpaper. I personally love the look.

My recent Houzz ideabook features even more of my favorite products adorned with beautiful feathers and feather patterns.

Do you love feather patterns too?

Dome Pendant Light Trend + Houzz Feature

white dome light over table

Large dome pendant lights. They are being used more and more throughout the home including in dining rooms, kitchens and even bedrooms. The sleek, clean design had definitely increased in popularity and was the topic of an article recently written by Mary Jo Bowling on Houzz. I was thrilled to have my little breakfast nook (below) featured and talk about the design trend too! Here’s one quote taken from the article.

Dome pendant lights more understated than some over-the-top or frilly fixtures and they are kind of like the little black dresses of design, in that they can be dressed up or down to go with anything. – Cristin Bisbee Priest via Houzz

I often get asked who made the dome pendant in our nook. It was by Arteriors, but has been discontinued. If you are searching for something similar though, this chrome dome pendant light is a good alternative.

Thanksgiving Kids Table Ideas

Celebrating Thanksgiving with children is the best, but may lead to some challenges. Do you include them at the “adult” table with the fine china, silverware and crystal? Or will your littlest guests have their own designated table? It might all depend on how many kids will be there, how big your main table is and if you think the kids are ready for your finest dishes.

As for me, I prefer to have the kids to sit at the adult table – in the hopes they will learn from their parents, relatives and friends how to behave in a more formal setting. However, when I was growing up I sat at the “kids” table for years – in fact it became the “teen” table at one point!

If you are planning on having a kids’ table this Thanksgiving, it always fun to decorate in a special way. Age appropriate activities, shatter proof glasses and personal touches are just some things to think about when setting the table for your youngest guests. Here are some ideas for decorating a fun Thanksgiving kids’ table and keeping them busy!

Thanksgiving kids table - thank you note idea

I especially like this idea of a personalized turkey mailbox on the back of each child’s chair. A fun way to get kids and family members to write notes of thanks.
