Spring Gardening Essentials

With March’s arrival I’ve been thinking about the warmer months ahead. One thing I enjoy most about spring is the opportunity to garden again. Every year I like to add a new gardening tool, get a fresh pair of gloves and incorporate new plants. I’ve spotted several items on my wish list at  One King Lane’s “go green” sale and I wanted to share them with you too!

Oh (faux) Christmas Tree

Yes I did. Call me crazy. I’ve decorated the Christmas tree already. With Thanksgiving running so late this year, I decided “what the heck!” Don’t worry though, it won’t be a pine-needle-less, fire hazard by the holiday. It’s an artificial tree sent to me by Tree Classics. I’m super impressed with the quality – it’s hard to tell it’s not real even when you are in the same room. The only thing I miss about having a live tree is the lovely pine scent that fills the house.

I selected the  7 1/2′ classic Fraser tree with clear lights because of it’s narrow profile – great for small rooms. Love that the lights were already on the tree and that they are LED! Assembly took me about 30 minutes from start to finish. I did have to pull in my hubby to put on the top layers though.

This year I went with a crisp white and rich gold color palette for the tree decorations. Tons of white feathers were placed throughout the tree and along the top of the Chinese cabinet. I also added a new new items this year such as the fab faux fur tree skirt (above), owl snowglobe (next to the white peonies above) and felt snowflake ornaments (below) I picked up at West Elm!

CanvasPop Review & Discount Code

Sometimes the best artwork is the most personal. Having family photos reproduced on canvas (large or small) is a wonderful way to preserve and showcase travel, loved ones and life’s precious moments.

When CanvasPop, a leader in canvas photo prints, asked if I would review their product I was thrilled. In fact, I asked a client (who is also an excellent photographer), Suzanne O’Brien if she would be willing to help me out with the review. She picked  a sweet photo of her daughter holding some of my favorite flowers, pink peonies. Here’s the amazing result and what Suzanne had to say about it:

I couldn’t be more pleased with my new CanvasPop photo canvas. The colors are rich and vibrant on the textured canvas. When I showed the piece to my family, my son remarked, “wait, did you paint that?” It does have a beautiful artistic quality to it. The 20×20 size is large enough to make a statement, yet small enough to fit easily on an existing gallery wall. Perfect for my daughter’s “personality wall” that I’ve been slowly adding to for the last few years. My vision for this space is for her to go to sleep at night with a visual reminder of all the good things that make her her. – Suzanne O’Brien

Summer Entertaining :: Tablescape with Villeroy & Boch

There is still plenty of summer left for entertaining family and friends and so today I’m sharing a recent tablescape inspired by the warmth, color and bounty the season brings.

orange dinnerware tablescape - Simplified Bee

The beautiful plate with tangerine band by Villeroy & Boch, the creator of extraordinary dinnerware treasured worldwide, was the launching point for the vibrant color palette.

For a layered look,  the classic plate was placed atop a glazed stoneware in grey. It’s an eclectic look, but it works because the fine platinum trim of the plate is picked up in the grey stoneware and green tablecloth.

The tabletop blooms are simply seasonal garden flowers and succulents that pull together the color scheme. They were arranged in a vintage milk glass vessel well below eye level so they wouldn’t impede conversation flow. I paired the floral arrangement with a bowl of tangerines also in a vintage milk glass bowl.

Hope this little tablescape inspires your next summer dinner party!
