The Buzz :: SF Design Events

There are a couple exciting home & design events taking place in the San Francisco Bay Area – The Sunset Celebration Weekend and WestEdge San Francisco.

First off: After 17 years, the final Sunset Celebration Weekend will be held on Sunset Magazine’s iconic Menlo Park campus on June 6th & 7th (the magazine will be moving to new digs). Attracting thousands of readers, Sunsets beautiful seven-acre campus will be transformed into an interactive showcase for the region’s most exciting lifestyle inspiration and freshest flavors. Editors, celebrity chefs and lifestyle experts from across the West will bring the pages of Sunset to life and showcase the region’s hottest trends in food, wine, travel, garden and home. A terrific event for the entire family!

Thursday evening’s opening night reception for the official San Francisco Design Week is expected to draw 3,000 design lovers. The curated modern design fair will feature 40+ exhibitors who all speak to high-quality and thoughtfully made design products. Check out a few that caught my eye!

Design Reveal :: My Home

Today I’m thrilled to share a very personal space: my home. Recently I welcomed a favorite online shelter magazine, Rue to take a tour of our ranch-style home located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The design has been a work in progress for over a decade (I’m never really done!). When we first moved in we tackled renovating the kitchen, bathrooms and landscaping front & back. In the last year as you may know, we added a master bedroom suite. Here’s a look…

I hope you enjoyed a little peak into my home – pop over to Rue Magazine to see the entire feature. And a big thank you to the Rue team including Crystal Palecek (founder/editor-in-chief), Julia Robbs (photographer) and Shoko Wanger (writer) who made the whole process so fun. You’re the best!

happy decorating,

Friday Finds :: Ronda Carman Fine Fabrics

I’ve admired Ronda Carman for along time. Her blog, All the Best was one of the first design blogs I gravitated to when I started blogging six years ago. Last year, Ronda set sail on a new venture in textiles. While living in Scotland for eight years, she fell in love with the century-old textile mills of the region and found that American interiors designers had little access to these classic fabrics. As a result, Ronda Carman Fine Fabrics was born and offers traditional Scottish textiles with a modern twist. Her to the trade collection features over 350 wools and cashmeres in a variety of patterns including plaids, checks and pinstripes. But, what makes the textiles so special are the colorways Ronda’s selected. Icy blues, hot pinks and grey-blues are just some of the gorgeous colors that give these timeless patterns a fresh look. Love this!

I’ve rounded up just a few of my favorites today.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: His Office

Even thought the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2015 closed the doors this past weekend, I still have a few rooms I’d like to share with you. One is “His Office” created by Brittany Haines of Authenticity B. Designs. The design was inspired by the literature, art and design resulting from destruction. “We kept coming across this concept over and over again – my team couldn’t escape it. So we designed a room around it. The centerpiece of the room is a desk constructed from material called shou sugi ban, created by an ancient Japanese technique of charring cedar planks.” says Haines. Placed opposite the desk is a painting by Ian Kimmerly which was inspired by the crackly, damaged videotapes. Even the smallest details like a wooden tray has a rawness about them. Even with the “destructive” elements, the room is approachable, flooded with natural light and brilliantly layered.
