Design Crush :: Velvet Sofas

design crush // velvet sofas #interiors #blue

As the cooler weather roles in I find myself gravitating to certain textiles. One in particular is velvet. Love this soft, textured fabric on sofas in particular. I’ve pulled a few of my favorite interiors featuring velvet sofas and as you will see the textile look great in just about any color and style.

Known for mixing modern and vintage elements, Catherine Kwong selects a sofa in a deep marine blue velvet for urban living room. The tufting is beautifully executed and allows the velvet to shimmer. If you like this look, check out West Elm’s Chester Sofa (disclosure: affiliate link) in performance velvet.

#Pledge2Reset at BlogHer 2014: Making Your Living Room a Multi-Functional Space

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of sharing design and cleaning tips with BlogHer 2014 attendees for Pledge® in SC Johnson’s booth. The overall booth (so cute!) represented the general living areas in a home including the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, backyard and living room. My space with Pledge® was the living room. A place we entertain, relax, eat, play and sometimes even catch a nap. Because of it’s multi-function, maintenance is important to ensure it looks its best.

Regardless of your style or living room design, you’ll need a clean space to make it all work. Pledge® brand products can be used on nearly any surface to quickly refresh your furniture and floors. It resets your home and makes it more vibrant and inviting.

Try using the tips below to help reset your living room into a multi-functional space:

  • GET ORGANIZED! Trays are a secret weapon for bringing color to any surface. Clear or acrylic lets you see everything you’re storing. You can give a tray extra personality by adding a splash of color or wallpaper. Trays are also great to corral all the items in your living area.

  • USE WHAT YOU HAVE. Design can come from the most unexpected placed, even from the things you already have. Stack your favorite books to make a statement centerpiece or even a creative doorstopper.

  • MAKE IT PERSONAL. Make a space your own is the name of the game. It’s all the little things that can give a room some life. Frame your kid’s drawings or put up your favorite song lyrics. It’s something completely unique to you and your family and won’t cost a lot.

Pledge® has got you covered to bring your floors back to life. Just a few quick steps, and your floors are reset. Here I am showing how easy it is to clean with Pledge® Squirt and Mop. It was that easy. Really. Best yet, as it cleans, it protects your hardwood and multi-surface flooring. A win-win in my book!

We were a happy bunch and had a great time. A big thank you to SC Johnson for including Simplified Bee!

Global Chic + Kid Friendly Home Decor

Global chic and kid friendly home decor. That’s the result when you have mom of two little ones and Tea Collection‘s co-founder and chief creative officer, Emily Meyer decorate her own home recently featured in Lonny. I was fortunate to meet Emily back in 2002 while pregnant with my first child and Tea was just a few months old. I vividly recall swooning over her gorgeous Asian style pima cotton baby sweaters and her brilliant vision for creating a globally inspired children’s clothing. I know how hard she has worked over the years and am thrilled with her success.

It’s clear to see Emily’s clothing designer roots and deep passion for print, pattern and color in her use of wallpaper, textiles and accessories incorporated throughout her craftsman style home in Palo Alto. She’s not shy to mix period and ethnic styles either. It’s a super approachable, multi-layered and kid-friendly space – love every inch. Here’s a look at my favorite rooms.

Flamingo Decor Frenzy

disclosure: This post contains affiliate links, which means Simplified Bee receives commission if you make a purchase using these links.

flamingo art and tufted bench

As part of my home’s expansion project, I’ve been designing a few rooms for my own family. One is a bedroom for my little one that will feature flamingos. This process has been a lot of fun and has me scouting flamingo decor. There is a lot of cheesy flamingo stuff  and it’s easy to go overboard with the theme, so I’ve narrowed down a few of my favorite here.

flamingo photography - the animal print shop

One way to incorporate flamingos in your decor is through artwork. This photo taken by Sharon Montrose captures a solo flamingo with wings outstretched. It’s a little a typical of the iconic one legged stance that flamingos are known for. Perhaps that’s why I like it so much.

In this living room by Sarah or Smitten Studio, another flamingo photo by Sharon is featured above mid-century modern inspired console. Love!

Flamingo Mingle Art - Cozamia

However, I still adore this Flamingo Mingle print by Cozamia.

Furbish Studio features one of my favorite flamingo wallpapers in a bedroom vignette.

The flamingo wallpaper by Cole & Sons is available in a lovely toned-down color palette at Anthropologie. It would be so much fun in a powder room.

pink flamingo sugar cookies

Not home decor, but I’ve noticed that flamingo party themes are trending too. Loved this sweet flamingo 1st birthday party for Penny. How cute are these sugar cookies?
