Design Reveal :: My Home

Today I’m thrilled to share a very personal space: my home. Recently I welcomed a favorite online shelter magazine, Rue to take a tour of our ranch-style home located on the San Francisco Peninsula. The design has been a work in progress for over a decade (I’m never really done!). When we first moved in we tackled renovating the kitchen, bathrooms and landscaping front & back. In the last year as you may know, we added a master bedroom suite. Here’s a look…

I hope you enjoyed a little peak into my home – pop over to Rue Magazine to see the entire feature. And a big thank you to the Rue team including Crystal Palecek (founder/editor-in-chief), Julia Robbs (photographer) and Shoko Wanger (writer) who made the whole process so fun. You’re the best!

San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: Dining Room

The striking formal dining room in this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase was created by Cecile Starin. In addition to being trained as a fine art painter, graphic illustrator and interior designer, Cecile was a fashion designer for over twenty years. Her extensive experience is most evident in her design projects and most recently in the creation of the showcase’s formal dining space. For the room’s design, Cecile brings a raw, modern twist to the controlled, classical architectural details by incorporating street art into the setting. The noted San Francisco street muralist, Ian Ross was commissioned to create the bold black and white abstract murals to mimic ocean wave patterns and wild flora found off the Northern California coast. The colorful, recycled aerosol “Spray Can” sculptures flanking the fireplace are also by Ian.  The furnishings are too a mixture of modern and classical. For example, a large circular table with a galvanized top and earthy root base are paired with timeless Loius XVI black patent leather chairs. The eye-catching Italian LED chandelier for NIDO Living SF features a set of four concentric burnished brass rings. It’s stunning.

I love the design’s juxtaposition of contemporary street art with classical, glamorous luxury. What a feat Cecile has pulled off here! Hope you have a chance to see this room and showcase for yourself.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2015 :: Sneak Peek

This year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase is a beautiful Elizabethan-style home designed by iconic architect Julia Morgan (notable works include the legendary Hearst Castle and became the first woman to be awarded the American Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal). The residence located on Jackson street in the prestigious Presidio Heights neighborhood, was completed in 1917 for $20,000 for Abraham Rosenberg, the “Dried Fruit King” and his wife, Alice.

In the last few months, thirty-eight Bay Area interior designers have transformed the six bedroom, eight bath home for the San Francisco University High School’s 38th annual Decorator Showcase. Gorgeous light fixtures, exquisite furnishings and extraordinary wallcoverings had me visiting spaces more than once on my tour. Here’s a sneak peek of the showcase:

California Traditional Home Tour

A few weeks ago, a traditional style home designed by Chloe Warner of Redmond Aldrich Design caught my eye. Domaine featured the transformation of the beautiful Hillsborough, California home. Warner’s client, a Williams Sonoma Executive knew what she wanted – a happy, colorful and youthful space. As you will see, the result is just that. Using playful fabrics, chic wallpaper and elegant furnishings, Warner created a fresh and inviting home – just what her client dreamed of.
