One Room Challenge Fall 2015 :: Favorites

Whew! I’m quite relieved that the One Room Challenge (although a blast!) is behind us. The process and experience was really amazing, but exhausting. I’m so thankful to have worked with Linda from Calling it Home who created it all and with the generous event sponsors including, Bassett Mirror, BellacorDecoratorsBest, Farrow & BallLowes, Mark & Graham, Minted, and oomph. Thanks so much!

A huge thank you to you, my readers. I’ve been overwhelmed by the supportive and loving comments, emails, and thumbs up you’ve sent my way. Many thanks!!!

Oh, did you have a chance to take a look at the other 19 designers and bloggers that participated in the challenge? If so, were you blown away by the talent and gorgeous designs too? Here are a few of my favorite ORC transformations…
traditional + rustic boy's bedroom // design by a thoughtful place // via @simplifiedbee

I fell head-over-heals for Courtney’s design of her little boy’s bedroom. The traditional and rustic mix is fabulous. The reclaimed wood wall, handmade desk and pops of navy are just right. This room has lots of sentimental touches too which make the space all the more special.

Interior Designer, Naomi of Design Manifest pulled of a not so small feat for her One Room Challenge. It was really a One Condo Challenge! There are so many fabulous design details throughout, but my favorite is her small entryway which she covered in grasscloth, had a custom table made and hung a stunning mirror.

I’ve had my eye on the gorgeous silver palm tree pattern wallpaper for sometime, so I was thrilled to see Sue of The Zhush use it in her bathroom design. Her use of brass in the fixtures and hex mirror are spot on too. Love it!

Vanessa Francis of Decor Happy designed a wonderful master bedroom retreat. I am especially smitten with her walk-in closet design and how she backed the open shelving in a floral wallpaper. Stylish organization – you know I love it!

baby girl's lavender nursery // hi sugarplum! // via @simplifiedbee

Nursery designs are personal favorites of mine and so naturally I adored the sweet lavender room for Megan’s baby-girl-to-be. Working with designer Sita Montgomery, Megan created a space layered in color, texture and pattern. The room actually started out a neutral nursery, but once baby girl was announced the room took on a more feminine feel.

serene bedroom design // style your senses // via @simplifiedbee

Isn’t this bedroom design by Mallory of Style Your Senses so serene? It’s just about the same color palette I’ve used in my own bedroom! I’m loving the campaign dressers and chinoiserie mirrors flanking the cozy upholstered bed. Fabulous!

colorful living room // hi sugarplum // via @simplifiedbee

Cassie of Hi Sugarplum! transformed her living room into an inviting, colorful and sophisticated space. She collaborated with Kristin of the Hunted Interior for the overall design. I love the layers in this room the most. Checks, animal and abstract patterns work brilliantly together. And that built-in in navy high gloss is brilliant.

Another fabulous living room design for the One Room Challenge was by TV host, author and lifestyle expert, Kimberly Schlegal Whitman. Her English Countryside inspired living room for her family’s ranch is quite a treat! I’m particularly loving this corner with leather green chair, brass & glass bar and buffalo check drapery.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: Master Bedroom

Dark moss green. It’s a color that was popular in the 90s is making a comeback. The earthy shade of green covers the walls in the Master Bedroom designed by Will Wick of Wick Design for this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase. To balance the masculine walls, Wick adds soft feminine tones including the light cream drapery and pale pink bedside lamps. To achieve a curated feel, the space features a mixture of modern-styled furniture (much of which was custom designed by Wick himself) with antiques. In addition, Wick’s use of lighting, artwork and color is tremendous. I was smitten by the level of detail that went into this design. Bravo!

Simplified Bee Pinterest Board for Walker Zanger

For the past week I’ve had the pleasure of working with Walker Zanger on creating the Pinterest board, Simplified Bee’s Inspirations. You will have to check it out. It’s loaded with beautiful images inspired by the gorgeous patterns, colors and textures found throughout the Walker Zanger’s exceptional stone and tile collections.

Walker Zanger // Luxe Stone & Tile Designs

From the sophisticated, yet simple Sterling Row to worldy, yet timeless Villa D’Oro, I was mesmerized by the vast and varied collections offered. Throughout the pinning process, I tried to pair a Walker Zanger stone or tile with a beautiful interior, vignette or quote. The process was so fun and had me dreaming up spaces throughout the home featuring these exquisite collections. Here are my favorites from the pinboard:

If you are lucky enough to be in Las Vegas this week for this year’s Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), you will have to drop by Walker Zanger’s booth (S7023 – South Hall in the Las Vegas Convention Center). In addition to previewing hundreds of new tile and stone products from their 2015 collections, you have the opportunity to meet the design team behind the soon-to-be released tile collaboration with Robert A. M. Stern Architects.

Vintage Chic Home Office Design

As a designer I’m always seeking out chic vintage furnishings and home decor. My go to destinations include flea markets, estate sales and craigslist. However, the process of scouring through items can be time consuming, hit or miss and downright frustrating (is it the real deal? is the seller trustworthy?).  And of course this is simply the buying side, not the selling side of vintage furnishings! But fortunately there is now Chairish, an online marketplace where design lovers can exchange gently used, pre-owned furniture and decor directly with one another. They make the whole buying, selling and shipping process a breeze. In addition, the experts at Chairish hand-select and curate the collections of items on the site, so you know you’re getting quality vintage and designer decor that is accurately represented. Love!

The folks at Chairish asked me to select a favorite rug from various styles that were provided and then create a styleboard designed around that pattern and color scheme using furnishings from their site. I selected a beautiful grass green Turkish rug as the starting point for a vintage chic home office design. The process of sourcing and searching for items on Chairish was fast and easy. I could even keep track of my favorites along the way! The result is fresh, airy and of course chic.
