Friday Finds

Wahoo! It’s Friday and I’m finally starting to kick this lousy cold I’ve been fighting all week. Not fun. I sure hope you’ve avoided it and are staying healthy!

On a happier note… while in the process sourcing for several clients, I spotted some stylish home decor items I thought you’d love too. As you can see, I’m still gravitating toward those gold tones, honeycomb patterns and statement pieces.

The last item pictured, a tufted linen bench, is part of Target’s new Threshold Spring 2014 Collection.  It’s simple simple, yet chic and affordable! Gotta love that.

Happy Friday,

Cristin

Preppy Home Office

disclosure: This post contains an affiliate links, which means Simplified Bee receives commission if you make a purchase using this link.

Have you been thinking about giving your home office an update? These images may just motivate you to do that. You may recall my wonderful intern from the past two summers, Michaela. Last year she graduated from design school and has launched her own firm, Michaela Noelle Designs. I’m thrilled to share with you a project she recently debuted. It’s a preppy home office design for a mutual friend of ours that has two boys. Looking to have a girly space of her own, she hired Michaela to transform her catch-all office space into a room that’s fresh, feminine and beautifully organized.

We created four zones for the office: the bookshelf /scrapbooking supply area, the desk, window seat and bar cart we are calling our “craft cart”. Bar carts really are versatile! – Michaela

The thing I love about my new office space is the way I feel when I go in there: peace and happiness! My old office made me crazy with all the clutter and disorganization. I love the Expedite unit with all the baskets and storage and finally somewhere to put all my scrapbooking albums! I also love the prints in my office, such a great idea, especially the LOVE one above my desk. – happy client

I love that the vintage trunk was kept under the window. It’s softened with floor length West Elm drapery in a soft lattice pattern and a trio of throw pillows in navy velvet and a chinoiserie floral by Caitlin Wilson Textiles. If interested in knowing more product sources featured in this beautiful office, please visit Michaela’s blog!

Bravo Michaela! Love, love, love  it!

Happy decorating,

Cristin

Design Reveal :: California Casual Chic Living Room

disclosure: This post contains an affiliate links, which means Simplified Bee receives commission if you make a purchase using this link.

Open to the kitchen with a view of the backyard, my client envisioned a casual retreat that could stand up to all the kids’ play, yet still be chic. The result is an inviting, kid-friendly space that incorporates a fresh twist on traditional, mixes the old with new and features worldly accents. I’m thrilled to give you a tour of this California casual chic living room.

The color palette, of blues and gold was predetermined by the room’s wall color and roman shades. A pair of existing skirted sofas were reupholstered in woven golden fabric – although still a tailored look, they have a warm beachy feel. The seating area is anchored by a steel blue rug with a fresh pattern inspired by ancient Aztec tile.

A demilune table found at a local consignment store was placed behind the sofa and is flanked by a pair of elegant Rococo style chairs. The heirloom antique chairs were reupholstered in the beautiful Sinhala Linen (stone) by Martyn Lawrence Bullard for Schumacher. The traditional tree of life pattern really complements the chair’s ornate pierced splat back and curvy cabriole legs.

Between the sofas I placed a Moroccan inspired octagonal side table topped with a beautiful brass ring lamp, turquoise foo dog and a succulent that brings the outside in.  The sofas’ custom throw pillows in Sikar Embroidery (flax) also by Martyn Lawrence Bullard features an exotic ikat pattern that pulls together the color palette beautifully.

Avoiding sharp corners, an oval coffee table with a gilded base and marble top was selected. The table was back-ordered forever, but worth the wait!

Stylish Built-in Bookcase - Simplified Bee

Remember this styled built-in bookcase? Here it is again with a few new accessories.

I’m so happy with the way this space came together and so is my client. Love that!

Hello 2014 + New Year Goals

hello 2014 --goal setting

It’s here. 2014. The new year fills us with hope, gives us optimism and provides us a fresh start. Now (today) is the perfect time to jot down your goals, hurdles you’d like to overcome and map out those dreams you’ve been afraid to even whisper.

don't quit your day dream. #dreamnew year's resolutions - the ultimate list

I love this “ultimate list” of goals, however it’s too general. Statistics show that by February, you will have broken more than 90 percent of the resolutions you made and that’s a big bummer. So here are some helpful steps to achieve your goals in 2014!

I love this quote too because life is full of surprises, ups & downs and monkey wrenches. When change occurs, review your list of new year goals to make adjustments to stay on course! And aim at staying positive. Negativity is just a downward spiral.

Also, a huge thank you to William Sonoma’s Designer Marketplace for selecting Simplified Bee’s Designer Kitchens board on Pinterest as a top ten to follow! I’m honored to be included!

Happy 2014,

Cristin
