Giveaway: Wall Decals for Kids from 41 Orchard

Your child’s interests will evolve and a child that might not have cared what his room looked like as a two year old, may have a strong opinion as a four year old.

Wall decals are a great way to decorate ever changing nursery rooms, playrooms or kids’ bedrooms. They can instantly add color and a touch of whimsy to a child’s space without the commitment.
41 Orchard, of Victoria Australia designs the cutest  wall decals. I love that they use eco-friendly materials – a self adhesive fabric that won’t peel over time, but can be removed without damaging the wall. It was hard to narrow down, but here are a few of my favorite designs from 41 Orchard:

Friday Find: New Wallpaper Collection by Clarke & Clarke

Wallpaper is still a huge design trend for 2012. I even decided to install wallpaper in our kitchen nook last fall and absolutely love it {here’s a sneak peak, but hope to reveal the entire space to you soon!}
duralee wallpaper 2012
So for today’s Friday Find, I think it appropriate to show you some new and very chic wallcoverings from Clarke & Clarke {distributed by Duralee in the states}. The collection is appropriately named “Showstoppers” was just released this month. It includes a huge range of both classic and contemporary patterns. Here are some of my favorites from the collection:

The last one in the pink colorway is darling. Wouldn’t it be so cute in a little girl’s bedroom or bath?
On another note, I was also wrong about Google’s Friend Connect. Google will continue to support the feature on their Blogger platform {which this blog is on}. So, sorry about the confusion and for now the widget stays!

And on a final note, Congrats Kristin of MN… you have won the $100 gift cert from Empire Patio Covers, but I don’t have your email. Please contact me!

Happy Friday,

Girls’ Rooms by Designer Ruthie Sommers

I was first introduced to LA-based designer, Ruthie Sommers’ work in the pages of Domino, Traditional Home and House Beautiful. I admire her ability to mix period styles effortlessly and create inviting spaces that layer pattern, texture & color.

Recently, Ruthie’s LA home was featured in Lonny’s July/August issue and the article reminded me how much I like her design aesthetic. In the above image, I love how she paired abstract art with fresco-inspired wallpaper by de Gournay.

Ruthie’s daughter’s room has evolved from a nursery that was originally featured in Domino’s October 2008 issue. Today a vintage Lilly Pulitzer daybed is placed where the crib once stood. However, the beautiful hand-painted Chinoiserie mural in Pink Peony from Pratt & Lambert remains.

Some of my favorite rooms Ruthie has designed have been for little girls. Here’s a sampling from her portfolio:

Veranda’s The House of Windsor

the house of windsor floor plans drawings

If you are in the Los Angeles area or plan to be there in the next couple weeks, don’t miss a tour through Veranda’s design showcase, The House of Windsor. Spearheaded by the very talented Windsor Smith, the house was designed inside and out with the demands of the modern family in mind, while being luxuriously beautiful.

Ten LA-based interior designers were selected to be on the elite roster which included  Candace Barnes, Richard Shapiro, Peter Dunham, Tara Shaw, Richard Hallberg, and the fabulous Million Dollar Decorators, Kathryn Ireland and Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. Martyn’s black and gray game room with kelly green accents is below. Love his daring use of the wallpaper!

And of course, Windsor Smith took a lead role in designing the home. The fabulous kitchen is her design and has a delightful mix of old and new. I just love the open shelving and stunning white marble farm sink.

“We call it a concept house, but it’s really more than that. It’s an intersection of heartfelt ideas and sophisticated execution, with results that are at once soulful, stylish and enlightening.” says Dara Caponigro, Veranda’s Editor-in-Chief.

It’s for a great cause too – all proceeds from The House of Windsor will benefit the Children’s Action Network and P.S. ARTS. Don’t delay! Tours run now through July, 17, 2011.

{hmm, I’m thinking of a way to sneak down there! Are you with me?}
