Oh Boy! – Nursery Rooms

A prego friend of mine hasn’t settled on a design for her baby boy-to-be and so this post’s for her.

The design of the beautiful modern nursery above was inspired by the Alphabet crib bedding by Dwell and created by the homeowners. The walls were painted in soft shades of blue – BEHR’s Cumberland Fog, Little Dipper and Silver Strand. My favorite element in the room is the wall mural. It was created on the computer, projected on the wall and then hand painted. The white & espresso crib and dresser are by Babi Italia Scandi style. The chocolate brown rocker and ottoman are by Wendy Bellissimo.

Trista and Ryan Sutter – yep, the couple from the Bachelorette reality TV show – worked with Greennest.com to help them create an eco-friendly nursery for their baby boy. They selected no VOC (volatile organic compounds) paint, carpet, furniture and bedding. The large vertical striped wall with baby blue horizontal accent is really striking.

This darling beach inspired nursery for twin boys was designed by Little Crown Interiors out of Southern California. Custom Serena & Lily bedding was created for the two white cribs. The chocolate brown double-width rocking chair by Little Castle Furniture is perfect for a mom with multiples! It also coordinates nicely with the custom drapes and changing table by Newport Cottages. I love the collection of colorful sand shovels and starfish pillow – perfectly beachy, but not over the top.

Typically I don’t pull inspiration from Pottery Barn Kids, but this sheep nursery was just too sweet to pass up. It’s a wonderful neutral color scheme that would work for either gender. I particularly like the PBK Larkin Fixed Gate Sleigh Crib that was inspired by the beautifully carved beds of French royalty. The whimsical Camilla Goldleaf Chandelier adds another natural element and warm light to the room. The appliqued Sweet Lambie Nursery Bedding is not only cute, it’s made of organic cotton. Love that.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that my friend found some inspiration in one of these rooms.
Update: Here is the nursery room that my friend designed for her baby boy.

Trina Turk for Home and New NoCal Store

I am a huge fan of Trina Turk clothing. So, I was over the moon to hear that she launched a printed fabric collection for the home with furnishings manufacturer Schumacher and a residential line of pillows, towels and rugs.

Like her fashion line, Turk’s indoor/outdoor fabric collection draws inspiration from diverse cultures, architecture and landscape that represent Southern California. This gorgeous fabric trio – left to right: Santorini in marine, Zebra in bamboo and Peacock in pool – are some of my favorites. Perfect for a party poolside. Also, because the fabrics are made for indoor or outdoor use, they are more rugged and would be great for interiors with small children.

Here is an exterior view of the new Trina Turk store in Burlingame, California – just 30 miles south of San Francisco. These are some of my personal photos from a recent shopping outing.

The store’s interior design is clean, modern and L.A. chic. The geometric floor is designed in white & brown round mosaic tiles with a dark brown grout. Lots of mirrors open up the space nicely and reflect the great lighting design. The back wall’s vertical brown & orange knotty yarn adds texture and an earthy touch. It’s a gorgeous space.

Trina’s new pillow collection is beautiful. The lime green embroidered pillow shown in the cane rocking chair is my favorite!

Trina’s swimwear line is the best! She always uses colorful prints and incorporates a fun element like the gilded hardware in the blue & white suit shown above. I had to hold back on buying one from her latest line because I purchased two last year!

If you are in the Northern California area, be sure to drop by this beautiful new Trina Turk Store in Burlingame. And if you print out and bring this Simplified Bee blog article, you’ll receive 10 off your purchase – hurry, the discount is good through August 31, 2009.

Home Office by Amanda Nisbet

I need to design a new home office and this one by Amanda Nisbet is gorgeous. I love the color scheme and fun modern elements. The Highbridge Desk by Ralph Lauren Home is stunning, but it lacks storage and I would be concerned about it getting too cluttered with all my lovely computer equipment. Soooo – I think I’ll keep on looking for more inspiration.

She’s a Grand Ole Flag – July 4th Decor

“The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make and to alter their constitutions of government.” ~ George Washington’s Farewell Address, September 17, 1796

Americans spend Independence Day with family and friends, barbecuing and watching fireworks light up the night sky. Here are some designer interiors and patriotic party decorations in the spirit of July 4th.

Ashley Whittaker designed this darling red, white and blue scheme boy’s bedroom. I recognized the white table and red chairs from Pottery Barn Kids – my girls have the same table with pink chairs. The white and red bedding is from Leontine Linens. Whittaker pulls this room together nicely with an American flag print by Maureen Andrews for Posh Papier.

In this lake house bedroom, designer Suzanne Kasler makes a strong patriotic statement with the American flag as the focal point. Love how she painted the ceiling blue.

This beautiful red, white and blue bedroom was designed by Meg Braff for her son. I love the geometric print in the Roman shade and bed skirt. The monogrammed red bed throw adds a nice personal element to the room.

Star-spangled family room! Designer Jason Bell kept this space fresh by painting the walls stark white. The armchair, upholstered in pale blue and navy chrysanthemum fabric from Osborne & Little and square woven coffee table help break up the navy elements. I just love those stylish and practical skirted ottomans in navy with nailhead detail.

This traditional red, white and blue living room found in Coastal Living is ideal for the seaside setting. I love the combination of red and blue striped furniture with coral-themed throw pillows to bring the outside in.

No 4th of July celebration is complete without festive decorations. Dress-up a gazebo or porch with box-pleated bunting and hanging star medallions as seen in Martha Stewart.

DIY and decorate your table by making firecracker pom-poms and table runners. Use ribbon to string stars inspired by colors and patterns in the American flag to make your own garland – both crafts from Martha Stewart.

Have a wonderful and safe July 4th!

Four freedoms: The first is freedom of speech and expression – everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of everyone to worship God in his own way – everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want – everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear – anywhere in the world. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt U.S. President
