Footstool in Schumacher’s Chiang Mai Dragon Fabric

A few months back, I won a remnant of Schumacher’s fabulous Chiang Mai Dragon fabric in aquamarine from Mr. Goodwill Hunting {great blog – I’m a fan – you must stop by!}.

This fabric is so beautiful {not to mention pricey}. I was nervous and didn’t want to ruin it. Therefore,  it sat idle until I could find the perfect application.

foot stool before

This sweet footstool with brass curved legs was stolen purchased for $2 at a local estate sale last summer. This was it. It needed a new life.

With a pair of scissors and a staple gun, I transformed the once tired footstool. It ‘s now so Chinoiserie chic. I love it. I hope Mr. Goodwill Hunting approves too. Do you?

Hopping over to Miss Mustard Seed’s furniture blog party… will you join me?

Happy Birthday Lonny and New Issue…

Lonny-magazine-2010-cover

Hard to believe it’s been a year, but online shelter magazine, Lonny is turning one. To celebrate the big birthday, they have released another stunning issue. Featuring design talents such as Celerie Kemble, Mary McDonald, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, John Robshaw, Palmer Weiss, Eddie Ross, Ruthie Sommers and so many more, this is a must see issue. Here are some of my favorite images…

Love this bookshelf organized by color created by stylist, Lauren Goodman’s NYC apartment. The pair of fuchsia chairs are a great compliment to the lavender carpet in the bedroom next door.

In the home of LA-based interior designer, Lulu de Kwiatkowski, her Americana, beach chic and bohemian style shines through. The sunny kitchen nook is a perfect spot for breakfast, drinking tea or art with the kids.

Love the textured wallpapered with gold vintage chandelier Kwiatkowski selected for this hallway. Colorful artwork, family photos and sea shells add life to an ordinary bookshelf. Go here for tips on styling a bookcase.

Kwiatkowski’s home is filled with fabrics from her own collection, Lulu DK for Matouk. In this bedroom, she layers rugs for texture, color and visual emphasis on the bed. The pair of wood inlay chests and black & white artwork add an old world element and balance the modern floral bedding and geometric draperies.

As stated in the Lonny issue, San Francisco-based interior designer, Palmer Weiss “interprets her style as a mixture of classic traditionalism modernized with a relaxed West Coast vibe.” This style is expressed in the design of her own San Francisco home. In the living room, Weiss  balances out the space with a mixture of pattern, finishes and period-styles. I love how Weiss decorates the fireplace mantel – simple, elegant and symmetrical. Go here for tips on decorating the fireplace mantel.

Love the nod to the San Francisco Giants with the use of orange in Weiss’ little girl’s room. Go Giants! The photos above each bed are priceless too.

Dream closet! Love, love this stunning walk-in closet in Celerie Kemble’s New York City 27th floor apartment. The black & white basket weave tile floor is beautiful with the back cabinetry.

Friday Find: Sang and Serena Inlaid Furniture & Hand-blocked Textiles

After writing this article on Bone Inlaid Furniture and Decor , I was introduced to a wonderful , eco-friendly company called Sang and Serena.  The company embodies three concepts when designing its furniture and textiles: eco-luxe, East-meets-West, and old world-new needs. Every item that they design and import is environmentally sensitive, rich to the eye and to the touch and a fusion of cultures.
Here is what Sang and Serena have to say about their stunning inlaid furniture pieces:
“The art of inlay work within India dates back to the 17th century. During that time, precious and semi-precious gemstones along with marble were used as the primary mediums for this form of craftsmanship.
Today, inlay work persists. Sang and Serena obtain their furniture from the Indian state of Rajasthan, where the art is practiced using regionally sourced bone and mother of pearl. The bone is extracted from camels that have passed on naturally; its cream-colored opacity manages to exude an elegant rusticity. Meanwhile, the mother of pearl is separated from the outer shells of water-dwelling mollusks; its shine is incredible, opalescent.”

Sang and Serena released a beautiful and vibrant collection of hand-blocked textiles. It includes six exclusive quilt designs available in king, queen and single sizes. The patterns are visually rich. And the texture {100 cotton} is soft to the hand. Here are my favorites:

To learn more about these one-of-a-kind, handmade pieces or to make an order, visit Sang and Serena.
Also, it’s not too late to enter to win two throw pillows of your choice! Go here to enter.
Happy Friday!
