Happy 2nd Birthday Lonny! {new issue too}

One of my favorite online shelter mags, Lonny is celebrating it’s two year anniversary! Their  latest issue was also release today and is inspiring as ever. It features wildly talented designers including Celerie Kemble, Eddie Ross and David Flint Wood. I had a really hard time narrowing down my favorite images, but here goes…

I also loved Melanie Fascitell’s feature, How To: Win Back Your Wardrobe. “The key to an expertly organized wardrobe is a unified design” Melanie states in the article. She has spot on advice about hangers, adding color & texture and displaying shoes and accessories.

You will have to check out Lonny’s anniversary issue and let me know what you think!

San Francisco Design Blogger Meet-Up

Last Thursday about 25 design bloggers from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond {way beyond!} gathered for a very fun evening. Malka of Closet Innovations opened the doors of her lovely showroom in the San Francisco Design Center and hosted the event. Thank you Malka!

The showroom features some beautiful and highly functional custom cabinetry options to help keep every inch of a home organized. Chic Shelf Paper sponsored the wine at the event and had several of their beautiful custom printed shelf liners on display {see below}. Such a lovely way to finish off a linen drawer!

Yofi, Malka’s sweet poodle also made an appearance and had her nails freshly painted for the event!

The highlight of the evening of course was meeting all the bloggers. I was expecting most of the attendees to be from the San Francisco area, but a handful traveled great distances and happened to be visiting at the time. Natasha came in from Tahoe {found out we had our wedding receptions at the same location – and the same florist!}, Courtney {was in the city to celebrate her 7th wedding anniversary – congrats!} was in from Southern California, Michelle {& her sister} came in from Atlanta and Erica {taking a much needed girly get-a-way with a friend – she has 5 sons} was in from Canada.

But the award for traveling the most distance goes to Mariska from the Netherlands {she too was on vacation}. Mariska is pictured above with Malka at the event.

I brought my camera with the intention of taking lots of pictures, but failed. So, I am stealing some from Courtney. He was the only male that attended and he has a fun post about being a rooster amongst all of the hens. I did however manage to take this cute shot above of Kate, Courtney and Michelle on a Murphy Bed that was in the showroom.

We had a great time and want to plan another meet-up this fall. Stay tuned!

Stylish & Organized Linen Closet–Before & After

stylishly organized linen closet

Over a long holiday weekend this spring, one of our big organizing projects was to purge and stylishly rearrange the linen closet. I typically do this kind of work for clients, but this time it was my turn!

Although the closet didn’t look up to my standards, it functioned fine. I think this is one reason why it took us so long to get to it.

As I mentioned, our “before” closet was functional, but needed a coordinated look. So out came all the items. The shelf liners were removed and the shelves were painted a crisp white. To add a punch of color we painted the back wall a fresh green  that coordinated with a trio of canvas striped bins we already had.

While my husband was painting, I organized all the supplies into groups and then housed the items staying in the closet into bins or baskets. Each basket received a labeled tag and were arranged on the shelves based on how frequently they were used. We had most of the supplies for this project. I only needed to purchase the top three bins and for those I selected a solid beige canvas so that it didn’t compete with the stripe, but was a different texture than the baskets.

We are much happier with the way the our linen closet looks today!
