Kitchen Design Crush :: Lauren Liess

I’ve loved watching Lauren Liess’ career explode over the past few years. Having had the pleasure of meeting Lauren at a design conference in LA., I can say she is super down-to-earth, approachable and beautiful. Just like her interiors!

Lauren Liess Designs

In the last year Lauren opened Lauren Liess & Co., an interior design studio and home furnishings boutique in Virginia and launched the textile company, Lauren Liess Textiles. She did this all while raising her adorable three young boys (Christian, Justin and one-year-old Luke) and doing a huge renovation on her own home. Can we say super woman?! Her new home graced the pages of the latest Domino Magazine. It’s amazing. The open modern, yet rustic kitchen is a standout and gives you a great peek into the beautiful juxtapositions Lauren achieves so effortlessly in her designs.

The rusted iron opening shelving flanking the oven’s hood caught my attention first. They are so unexpected. Love, love, love! She also pairs modern white perimeter base cabinets topped with black soapstone with an island wrapped in reclaimed wood and topped with clean white marble. Although contrasting Lauren achieves a relaxed balance kitchen design that’s pleasing to the eye.

To make the sink area a focal point in the kitchen, Lauren created a whimsical art wall. Daring? Of course! She’s breaking all the “rules” here, but I love the result. Speaking of silly rules, did you notice Lauren didn’t add a backsplash and mixed hardware finishes throughout?

I mixed  a variety of metals throughout the space for a relaxed collected feel- brass, iron, stainless steel, galvanized steel, bronze and more.  My husband, David, found the antique apothecary drawer pulls on ebay. – Lauren Liess via Pure Style Home Blog

To display barware, vases and serving ware, Lauren hung butcher block shelving from Ikea next to the refrigerator. The wood gives the space a little warmth that contrasts nicely with the dark, honed soapstone perimeter countertop

Here is a look at the kitchen from the living room that sits right off of it. As you can see, Lauren continues her relaxed, layered approach here to. It’s so friendly, just like Lauren.

Endless Options :: Wood-Mode Cabinetry

traditional kitchen with Wood-Mode cabinetsblack kitchen cabinets by Wood-Modemodern kitchen with Wood-mode cabinetsdesigner kitchen with Wood-Mode cabinetry

What do these beautiful kitchens have in common? All of the cabinets are made by Wood-Mode. Based here in the United States, family-owned Wood-Mode has been creating quality custom cabinetry for kitchens, baths, closets and offices for over seventy years. While at KBIS with BlogTour, I had the pleasure of touring the Wood-Mode booth and seeing their craftsmanship first hand. Although known for it’s traditional designs, Wood-Mode also offers contemporary and European styles that are gaining popularity with today’s homeowners. Take a look at just a handful of the many door styles offered:

Personally, I love the gray and blue tones – they are a nice departure from all white kitchen and bath trend!

Wood-Mode cabinet color palette

Traditionally, our customers choose the classic colors – wood tones, black, white and off-white, considering a cabinetry purchase should last years, if not decades. Our new designer opaque and vintage colors are subtle yet striking which allows customers to gain a touch of color without committing to a color that may be short-lived trendwise. – John Troxell, Director of Design, Wood-Mode

Wood-Mode is also dedicated to making cabinetry that is not only beautiful on the outside, but highly functional on the inside. The wide-variety of built-in storage and convenience features were having me longing for new kitchen cabinets!

By offering endless options, Wood-Mode’s high functioning, stylish and customized cabinets compliment any architecture and personal style. You’ll have to keep Wood-Mode cabinetry in mind for your next kitchen, bath or closet project!

Introducing Dekton by Cosentino :: Revolutionary New Surface

Dekton kitchen countertop

One of the highlights of touring KBIS with #BlogTourVegas last month was discovering new and innovative products. One such product is Cosentino’s newly launched ultra-compact surface called Dekton. Cosentino, an industry leader in quartz, natural stone and architectural surfaces may be best known for their popular Silestone products, but was buzzing about their new revolutionary product. Dekton is a highly innovative surface that can be used both indoors and out. By leveraging a proprietary technology that mimics the metamorphic change that rocks and stone undergo in nature over thousands of years, Dekton embodies extreme strength and durability. Dekton’s advanced technical properties provide UV and thermal shock resistance, superior strength, high resistance to impact, scratches and abrasion and low water absorption. This product is really ground breaking and can be used in so many applications beyond kitchens and bathrooms – imagine Dekton used for high-traffic flooring, exterior facades and pool surrounds to name a few.

Dekton surfaces - outdoor pool and patio

Produced in large format slabs, measuring approximately 12″ x 56″ inches and three thicknesses (1.2 cm, 2 cm and 3 cm), Dekton allows flexibility for large-scale applications as seen in the poolside patio and the building facade below.

Currently, Dekton is available in three collections – Solid, Natural and Tech – with thirteen white, grey, black and natural stone hues and in three polished, matte, wood and slate finishes. In the future, the collection will expand to include a wide range of innovative aesthetics including rust, concrete and oxidized metal as well as a variety of textures, such as rippled, leather, denim, brushed and coated. Stay tuned!

Poggenpohl’s beautiful form is equally matched by it’s high-function and innovation. I tested out these beautifully precise cabinets and drawers while at KBIS with #BlogTourVegas. They are indeed impressive on the inside and out. Poggenpohl’s new drawers and pull-outs are crafted from the finest materials and the pull-outs come with indirect LED lighting that is automatically activated when the pull-out is opened. Functional accessories, such as spice shakers and porcelain or aluminum jars allow for seamless organization and complement the light-maple or walnut wood inserts. Here are some of the impressive accessories Poggenpohl offers… get ready to swoon.
