Virtual Design Client: Orange & Blue Boys Bedroom

One aspect of my business that I have really enjoyed is working with virtual clients. After completing a questionnaire and a phone call {or two}, I have a good understanding of what my client is trying to achieve aesthetically and functionally for the space.

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of working with a mom who asked me to design a bedroom for her two young boys. She wanted the room to feel light & airy, incorporate a blue/gray color palette with pops of orange and give a nod to Star Wars {her hubby is a huge fan} without be too cutesy.

Here is one of two inspiration boards I created for the room:

The name “Bingo Breeze” was selected because it’s the name of the bedding shown in the upper left from Little House by Annette Tatum. To be fair to my clients, I will not share the other board, but it complements this board and makes it easy to mix & match items.

There are so many aspects of this design that I love, but one in particular are the custom monogram pillows from Jonathan Adler. Here are the three designs that I proposed to the client. Which one is your favorite?

The room is still in progress, but if okay with the client I will share a photo or two of the completed room.

I’m Inspired… New House of 50!

Earlier this year my blogger friend Janell Beals, a Portland, Oregon-based interior designer and editor of Isabella & Max Rooms blog, launched a new online lifestyle magazine, House of Fifty.

house of 50 issue 2 2011

The second issue has hit the virtual newsstands and is so inspirational! It includes a little something for everyone including how to organize incoming mail, decorating with kids’ art and a look at getting fit with pilates.

I loved seeing articles featuring some of my favorite bloggers including:

All-American, Ralph Lauren Guest Blogging & Lake Tahoe Home

Today I am thrilled to be a guest blogger at Tobi Fairley’s Blog. Tobi’s an award-winning interior designer based in Little Rock and her work has been featured on the cover of House Beautiful.

“All-American” was the topic Tobi selected for her guest blogger series. She left the theme broad, but the iconic Ralph Lauren came to mind instantly.

My mother’s loves for all things Ralph Lauren definitely influenced my decision to focus on his work for Tobi’s article. Not only does my mom love his clothing line, her home in the in Lake Tahoe is also layered in furnishings, pillows and linens from Ralph Lauren Home. She even changes the look seasonally. Jewel tones, plaids and velvets make up the look for winter, while the summer months are a fresh, nautical blue & white.

The image above is the living room and most of the furniture is slipcovered for the summer months. The sofa, ottoman and wing chairs are all covered in Ralph Lauren fabrics although you can’t see them from this image. This winter, I will try to get some shots without the slips.

Here are some more images from some of the other rooms that feature Ralph Lauren…

Rue Magazine #6 is Here & WOW!

The July/August issue of Rue Magazine is out and amazing! The photography and art direction is simply the best yet. You’ll be so inspired!

The issue features a tour of artist & blogger, Mariska Meijers’ Amsterdam studio. It was so fun to see it especially since I just met her last Thursday at the San Francisco design blogger event. Her work is stunning – and to top it off she is beautiful inside and out!

The “Arabian Days” was another one of my favorite articles in this issue. The photography by Jose Villa is incredible. Not only was the tablescape over-the-top stunning, the photo shoot included a live camel!
