San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: His Office

Even thought the San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2015 closed the doors this past weekend, I still have a few rooms I’d like to share with you. One is “His Office” created by Brittany Haines of Authenticity B. Designs. The design was inspired by the literature, art and design resulting from destruction. “We kept coming across this concept over and over again – my team couldn’t escape it. So we designed a room around it. The centerpiece of the room is a desk constructed from material called shou sugi ban, created by an ancient Japanese technique of charring cedar planks.” says Haines. Placed opposite the desk is a painting by Ian Kimmerly which was inspired by the crackly, damaged videotapes. Even the smallest details like a wooden tray has a rawness about them. Even with the “destructive” elements, the room is approachable, flooded with natural light and brilliantly layered.

Round-up :: DIY Message Boards

Having difficulty juggling appointments, activities and homework schedules for your family? As my kids have gotten older, I’ve found that it’s more and more challenging to kept it all straight. A message board in our kitchen nook has helped us tremendously. If you are are need of a command center, I’ve rounded up a few DIY message board options that you may want to consider.

Love this sleek, colorful dry-erase message board via BHG. It’s made from a piece of glass that’s simply been painted on the back and framed. Love!

This DIY magnetic board from 4 Men and 1 Lady, is made of a 26 gauge galvanized steel sheet and then framed.  It also doubles as a dry erase board for quick messages. Would love great in a kitchen, mudroom or playroom.

The folks at Martha Stewart created this chic message center using a store-bought cork board that was painted and upgraded with a brass rod to hold mail and hooks to hold keys. Love the many functions it provides!

Although this option isn’t as versatile as the others, I love the simplicity. The could be a fun DIY project or purchased through George & Willy.

Organized Closet on a Budget

black and white closet using Ikea // walk-in closet

An organized space is like a breath of fresh air. It calms us. For most, wardrobe closets can be some of the most unorganized spaces in their home. Therefore I always recommend closet systems to help keep reach in and walk-in closets organized.  These systems can be pricey, so when I stumbled across this gorgeous black and white organized closet – done on a serious budget – I had to share it with you.  Nina Holst of Stylizimo created a beautiful walk-in-closet using items mostly from Ikea. The DIY shoe rack created with a series of Ikea’s BYGEL towel rods and spray painted gold is brilliant!
