San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2014 :: The Master Bedroom

Like fashion shows for clothing designers, showhouses offer a platform for interior designers to incorporate cutting edge products, set trends and push boundaries. One such space that exemplifies this in the 2014 San Francisco Showcase is the master bedroom by Antonio Martins. The San Francisco-based interior designer boldly mixes traditional Portuguese tile, contemporary art and a 18th century antique bed passed down through generations. The result is simply stunning as it captures history and celebrates Portuguese culture in a modern manner.

To honor his heritage, an antique Portuguese Bilros bed, carefully preserved by Antonio’s family since the 18th century, commands attention and is the primary inspiration for the space. Made of “Pau-Santo,” an exotic rosewood, the design of the bed adheres to the strict guidelines of the period. “I have always loved this bed, which incorporates our family crest, and the Showcase was the perfect excuse to bring it to San Francisco,” says Antonio Martins.

In a bold move, Martins covered the wall in blue and white Portuguese tiles known as Azulejos. The 243 hand-painted tiles are a faithful copies of 18th century patterns and designs. To deliver a 21st century twist on traditional form and pattern, Antonio has expanded the tile size and shuffled the images to become a modern piece of art. Incredible.

On the sleek fireplace mantel sits two lucite boxes filled with personal letters (see below). Who knows what they say, but the romantic in me assuming they are all love letters passed down in the family. What a fun way to display such special notes!

Need some more does of the color blue? Here’s a tour of the little boy’s bedroom in this year’s showcase, in case you missed it. There is also plenty of time to still tour the estate and is open now through May 26th. Here’s more information on purchasing tickets.

Mother’s Day Gift Guide for My Mom :: #eBayMom Collections

Mother’s Day is just a few weeks away. Although celebrated worldwide for centuries, the first modern Mother’s Day in the United States wasn’t until 1908. Since then the second Sunday of May marks the day we honor our mothers, grandmothers and motherhood. One way to show your love and appreciation for all your mom has done is to give a thoughtful gift. This year in collaboration with eBay, I’ve curated a couple of #eBayMom collections with gift ideas that would be perfect for my own mom. If you haven’t heard of eBay collections, you will have to check them out. They are are great way to compile gift ideas for loved ones!

My mom is always on the go. She can be found snowshoeing in the winter, taking long hikes during the summer and hitting the gym with her trainer a couple days a week. I love that she has stayed so active and to celebrate this I’ve created an eBay collection with items my active mom could use.

Another place you can find my mom is in the kitchen. She loves to cook, bake and entertain. This eBay collection is all about her love for all things culinary. I’ve handpicked several items like the snow cone maker that I think would be fun for her to do with the grand-kids too!

Your mom wouldn’t care for any of these items? No worries. eBay for Mother’s Day has you covered. By simply curating your own collection for your mom using #eBayMom, you have the chance to win $500. Each week, one entrant who creates an #eBayMom collection will be chosen to win a $500 shopping spree on eBay. The sweepstakes runs now through May 11, 2014, so don’t delay!

happy shopping,

cristin

*although this post is in collaboration with eBay, all ideas are my own (as always!)

2014 is Kate Spade’s year of “places to go and people to see.” This month the destination is Capri – Italy’s high profile Mediterranean island that has drawn celebrities, artists and writers for centuries. As you will see, Kate Spade’s new spring collection is inspired by the island’s resort vibe, ocean vistas and popular limoncello drinks.

A couple weeks ago, I had the pleasure of viewing the new Capri collection with fellow blogger Michaela at the Kate Spade store in Palo Alto, California. I love it’s fresh, yet retro look. From dresses to hats, handbags to sandals, this playful collection will have you looking great for that spring break vacation!

Michaela (um so pretty, could be a model!) snapped some images of us trying on our favorite outfits from the collection. How cute is she above in that little black dress and bamboo wedge?

We both loved this casual outfit with “ciao baby” tee, capri lemon jeans, and t-strap bow sandals. Want it all!

Here I am (gulp) in a French navy dress with a full skirt and statement necklace. I have to admit, I felt uncomfortable in front of the camera! With Michaela ‘s direction, I think the images turned out okay! The dress of course is gorgeous!

I also fell in love with this beautiful floral lace top and gold knot necklace.

And how cute is this lemon slice clutch?

As you can see, I fell in love with so many items, but ended up picking up a pair of gold sandals for myself. But, I’m still contemplating several items including the fun accessories! Here are some of my faves…
