Design Board :: Modern Prince Nursery

disclosure: This post contains an affiliate links, which means Simplified Bee receives commission if you make a purchase using this link.

With the world watching and amazingly just one day after the birth, Prince William and Duchess Kate emerged yesterday from the hospital to introduce their son, the tiny Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge (name announced today!). From the beginning, the couple has pushed royal traditions and now want to raise their son on their terms. So, don’t you think it’s fitting that the baby, who’s third in line to the throne should have a nursery that communicates this modern monarchy? I do, so I pulled some nursery items with modern flair, perfect for the new prince.

Adorable Kids’ Rooms by Designer House of Ruby

Melodie Rubin is the founder of the luxury San Francisco Bay Area  interior design firm, House of Ruby. Her timeless interiors balance classic aesthetic traditions with personalized, custom details, resulting in spaces that are exquisite, yet approachable. I was particularly drawn to the children’s spaces Melodie has designed. Each wonderfully created with kids in mind, but still have a sophistication that mom & dad’s love.

Boys Daybed in Blue and Red with Stars

In this boy’s room Melodie selects a charming daybed in navy with star detail. I love the layers of pillow in various colors, sizes and textures. Such an inviting bed!

Blue Tent Boys Designer Bedroom

In one corner a beanbag chair is placed in a canopy. What a great quiet time spot. A pair of red cubbies help keep books, games and collections organized – love that they are one wheels!

Pink and Yellow Girls Designer Bedroom

Yellow and pink is a beautiful color palette for a little girl’s room. Here Melodie chooses wallpaper in yellow with pink polka-dots covering the walls. The upholstered pink headboard with nailhead trim is a standout in the space.

Orange and White Painted Dresser

I love every inch of this nursery! It’s layered in beautiful pattern and color. The white dresser with persimmon accents is so chic! The sweet elephant artwork hanging above adds a touch of whimsy to the space.

Orange Designer Baby Nursery Room

An eye-catching four poster crib is draped in exquisite textiles in a variety of patterns. I love the crib skirt!

Orange Designer Glider Nursery Room

Melodie also seamlessly mixing styles in the space. A traditional tufted back upholstered glider is accompanied by a modern lucite side table and contemporary fish lamp.

In a child’s bathroom, Melodie covered the walls in a darling fish patterned wallpaper. I am loving the shell and starfish mirror she added too!

Lucite Shower Curtain Rod

Melodie is a master with the details. I particularly like the blue pom pom trim she added to the red Roman shade and the lucite rod and hardware for the shower curtain.

What kid (or parent) wouldn’t love these spaces?

Tailored Child’s Bedroom :: New Collection from Little House by Annette Tatum

Today Little House by Annette Tatum is releasing a new collection appropriately named, Tailored. The gorgeous line of baby and child bedding has classic style with bold, modern brushstrokes creating a timeless distinction that is never trendy and always beautiful. The collection’s captivating prints and kaleidoscope of colors are a great starting point in selecting a color palette for your child’s room. I’m also  loving The Tailored Collection because it can seamlessly weave into any style room.

“I’ve always felt that color is one of the most important aspects of a nursery or child’s room,” says Annette Tatum, creator of the Tailored Collection.

The Maiden and Cottage Furniture Collections are also new. With classic designs, clean lines and elegant details, both collections are made using hardwood and in the USA. Choose your applique, knobs and one of six paint colors designed to coordinate with the bedding collection. I’m really liking the stylish and multi-functional the Cottage Changing Table and Removable Tray in academy blue [below] – changing table in the nursery today, chest in the boy’s bedroom tomorrow!Classic changing table dresser - made in the USA

And for a completely unique look in your child’s bedroom, Little House fabrics are also available by the yard! Love it!

Speaking of children’s rooms, I recently helped pull together some nursery design ideas for design blogger, Dina and her baby-boy-to-be. It will be her second child and so I reused a lot of her existing furnishings and decor items, but added some new pieces with fun pops of turquoise. See it here.

Highlight’s from Home Meridian at High Point

Last week I had the pleasure of attending High Point Furniture Market in North Carolina for the release of spring 2012 collections.  It was my first time to Market and let’s just say that I was a little overwhelmed by the magnitude of the event.
My trip was sponsored by Home Meridian and their Baby Creations and Pulaski brands.  Home Meridian ranks among the top five case goods suppliers to US retail, so there was tons to see! The showrooms are all located at 220 Elm Street – a picture of their newly renovated lobby was taken from my iPhone (below).

My first stop was the Baby Creation showroom. Not typically shown at Market, this collection of beautiful, high quality nursery furniture ranges from class to modern styles. While touring, I was able to talk to the designer of the collection (who is also a mom) and she went into detail about how each piece is designed to grow with your child and provide as much functionality as possible.

The sweet and elegant Angelina Collection was being introduced at Market. The six-legged crib is really stunning. This convertible crib is designed to grow with your little one and be used for many years. It converts to a toddler bed {guard rail is included with the crib}, daybed and then can be converted into a full bed with optional rails.

Black in a nursery can be so stunning. I think it works for both boys and girls too. I loved Baby Creation’s traditional combo dresser hutch in antique black

In a rich chestnut finish, I love the lines of this convertible sleigh crib. The bun feet can be removed to lower the height of the crib to suit the needs of the parents. It’s part of Baby Creations’ Cape Cod Collection which also features a changing table (below) that can be used as a media center down the road.

The Venezia Collection isn’t new, but I thought this beautiful, traditional European style crib was worth sharing with you.

Next I was off to tour Home Meridian’s Pulaski division. Pulaski was founded in 1955 and is known for its craftsmanship and affordable pricing. They are also an industry leader in curio cabinets. One of Pulaski’s collections, Accentrics offers beautiful, multi-functional casegoods. The chest / desk combo shown above was brilliant don’t you think? I can see it being used in so many different spaces.

This modern cabinet opens up and folds out into a full bar! I love how much space it saves when it is all buttoned up.

I loved the mirror detail on this tall antiqued cabinet and think it would work beautifully in a bedroom, living room or dining room.
The Home Meridian brands are sold through retailers. Follow the links to find a dealer in your area for Baby Creations and Pulaski.
Thank you Home Meridian for your generous hospitality!
