Design Board :: Modern Prince Nursery

With the world watching and amazingly just one day after the birth, Prince William and Duchess Kate emerged yesterday from the hospital to introduce their son, the tiny Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge (name announced today!). From the beginning, the couple has pushed royal traditions and now want to raise their son on their terms. So, don’t you think it’s fitting that the baby, who’s third in line to the throne should have a nursery that communicates this modern monarchy? I do, so I pulled some nursery items with modern flair, perfect for the new prince.

Design Crush :: Black & Spiro Interior Design

Sometimes I run across a portfolio of an interior designer that stops me in my tracks. The work of Australian designer, Anna Spiro of Black & Spiro Interior Design made me do just that. Each of her residential projects are filled with such wonderful layers, color and life. I’m sharing some of my favorite images from her newly designed website, but you will have to drop by to see all of her gorgeous portfolio. You will love!

Matchbook Mag + Home of Elizabeth McKay

This month’s Matchbook Magazine is not to be missed. The issue features interviews with several inspiring women entrepreneurs including Dabney Lee Woglom (home product designer), Kayce Hughes (fashion designer) and Erin Fetherston (fashion designer).

My favorite however an interview with fashion designer, Elizabeth McKay Jenkins. The Parson’s alum founded the Elizabeth McKay clothing company with women of all shapes and sizes in mind. It’s been a huge success. Matchbook also takes us on a tour of her family home. It’s adorable.

I love all the patterned wallpaper, chinoiserie fabrics and pops of color she used throughout. How cute is that crib for her baby girl? Love!

Interior Designer Spotlight :: Jay Jeffers

Earlier this week, San Francisco-based interior designer Jay Jeffers was featured on Diane Dorrans Saeks’ enchanting blog, The Style Salonite. Jeffers and his talented staff at Jeffers Design Group are known for creating spaces that are luxurious, yet approachable. Intrigued by Diane’s article, I took a deeper look through the design teams’ massive, diverse and inspiring portfolio. It’s no question Jeffers deserves his recent listing on Elle Décors A List of the top sixty designers in America. I think you’ll agree too after from seeing a sampling of his work.

A headboard not only anchors the bed, it anchors the room. When choosing one, consider your surroundings. Do you want art to hang above your headboard? Then keep it low. With tall nightstands choose higher headboard. Be bold. Are you traditional? Tuft it. Prefer modern? Upholster it in soft smooth leather. – Jay Jeffers via The Style Salonite

In addition to creating fabulous interiors, Jeffers opened Cavalier last year (image below). The San Francisco home furnishings and accessories store showcases carefully curated new, vintage and bespoke pieces from around the world. In addition to the many luxe treasures to be found, it’s also the exclusive source for Jeffers’ debut collection of California‐made furniture.

And there is more to come! Jay Jeffers’ is working on his first book  to be published by Rizzoli in the Spring of 2014. I’ll be looking forward to getting a copy for my library!
