What do you get when you cross the work of a marine biologist and a talented graphic designer? A fabulous textile line by nettle+fin. The company’s first textile line was completely inspired by microscopic images of beautiful, otherworldly creatures from the depths and the shallows of the warm oceans. It’s incredible to see how these tiny sea creatures could be the catalyst for such crisp, modern patterns. Giving each fabric its scientific name such as Hyplglossum, Rhipidosiphon and Ligora, nettle+fin educates us along the way too!
“Although we decided that our initial fabric patterns would focus on marine algae, we knew that we’d eventually like to expand our company to include pattern lines representing many different kinds of plants and animals. Thus, we wanted a name that symbolized the flora and fauna of both the land and the water. Relatively quickly, we decided on “nettle” to represent plants and terrestrial-based organisms, and “fin” to represent animals and aquatic-based organisms.” – nettle+fin
