San Francisco Decorator Showcase :: Kitchen & Family Room

The first thing to catch my eye in the kitchen of this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase by Navarra Design was the traditional La Cornue range and hood in glossy chocolate with brass detailing. (swoon) It was coupled with a contemporary verre églomisé backsplash (gilded glass) featuring dandelions. It’s a magical combo. Navarra keeps the inset cabinetry clean in a crisp white, yet adds a contrasting cerused oak island. The kitchen space is unified with striking calacatta marble countertops. The metal and wood bar counter is an unexpected element placed perpendicular to the island and is the perfect spot for the homeowner’s kids. The high lacquer ceiling in teal blue was a wonderful way to incorporate a burst of color and bring the kitchen and family room together. The family room’s breakfast nook is set in the window and delivers breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay. (it’s lovely)

Design Crush :: Bradshaw Orrell Interiors

The clean, light and airy home designed by Bradshaw Orrell Interiors stopped me in my tracks. Featured in Traditional Home, the Greensboro, North Carolina house was recently transformed for a newlywed couple relocating to the south from Manhattan. Orrell describes how the couple’s exquisite artwork, heirloom antiques and natural light played a crucial role in the overall design. In addition, Orrell, a former furniture designer for Niermann Weeks and Baker, incorporated his own sleek custom-designed furniture. The result is fresh, elegant and has a new traditional flare. Simply stunning as you will see.

How cute is the bedroom from their baby girl, Elle. The soft lavender chinoiserie wallpaper is a personal fave!

Beautiful Southern California Home Tour

It’s a new week and I’m thrilled to be sharing a beautiful project by Corona del Mar, California-based interior designer, Ohara Davies-Gaetano. The emerging designer (recently published in Veranda) helped a family remodel and settle into their new Newport Beach home (downsizing from their previous one in Virginia). Ohara created an inviting, comfortable, yet elegant space reflective of her clients’ casual lifestyle. She also wanted a very open feeling where all areas of the house seamlessly flow into the next. Because the home was much smaller than what the owners were used to, each room had to serve its purpose and be functional. European antiques found throughout the home add small but elegant touches, which epitomize Ohara’s passion for mixing a little old with the new. I also love how her design  embraces the gorgeous light, landscape and outdoor living Southern California is known for.

Kitchen Design Crush

A kitchen doesn’t have to be massive to be functional and beautiful. This all white kitchen designed by Jute Home is a perfect example. With the custom cabinetry well planned out, the space has room to accommodate gourmet appliances and touches. Although not enough room for an island, a peninsula does the job of housing the under-mount sink and barstools for three.

Here you can get a better look at the chic marble chevron backsplash and all white countertops (most likely a quartz). Love the open shelving too. They help break up the space visually.

Drinking tea is a daily ritual for me, so I love this last image. 🙂

Isn’t’ this a lovely designed kitchen? And if Jute Home sounds familiar, it might be because  Simplified Bee featured their lovely family kitchen for the San Francisco Showcase.
