I’ve been following the latest One Room Challenge on Instagram – have you? As you may know I participated in the past; redecorating our foyer and then renovating our master bathroom… in 6 weeks no less! The pressure is real and so I was feeling for the latest group of decor bloggers that took on the challenge. The final design reveals were published last week and are super fun and creative. It was so hard to narrow down, but I’ve selected five designs to share with you today.

black vanity // master bathroom // house updated #orc

The black vanity with brass hardware in the master bathroom designed by House Updated is fabulous. The tribal rug with pale pinks and gray works beautifully with the marble flooring and herringbone walls. Love the rounded brass mirror too.

serene boy's nursery room

This serene, yet sophisticated gender neutral nursery room by chris loves julia is another fave. It was designed for her baby girl-to-be, but I think would work for a boy too. The brass geometric mobile is a super chic touch, don’t you think?

gracie wallpaper // dressing room // house of brinson

House of Brinson‘s guest bedroom and dressing room is also spectacular. The walls are covered in an aged blue gray paint by Farrow & Ball and panels of Gracie wallpaper hang in the dressing room (shown above). Simply stunning.

chinoiserie chic // console table

The dining and sitting room design by The Pink Pagoda is another show stopper. The traditional design is layered with chinoiserie and modern touches. I’m loving this vignette in particular… and look a fern!

floral wallpaper + pink ceiling // bedroom // the english room

At first glance, this bedroom seemed it was designed for a teenage girl, but it’s actually the master bedroom for blogger Holly from The English Room. She is known for her bold, colorful and multi-layered designs. Don’t you love the lucite bed!

And be sure to check out all the fabulous One Room Challenge Spring 2017 reveals at Calling it Home. So fun!

One Room Challenge :: Master Bathroom and Closet Reveal

master bathroom // @simplifiedbee // #oneroomchallenge

Today’s the day – the One Room Challenge reveal. I can’t believe how quickly the last six weeks have flown by. There have been ups and downs along the way, but I’m so excited to share my new Master Bathroom and Walk-in Closet with you. It was a definitely a bigger challenge than the Foyer I designed last fall, but in the end I’m so glad that I selected this space. It’s my now my new favorite place in our home. Serene. Chic. Functional. Love, love, love it.

In case you are just joining and seeing this all for the first time, here are links to the first five weeks of my One Room Challenge this spring:

Week One (before) // Week 2 (inspiration & demo)

Week 3 (paint & wallpaper) // Week 4 (lighting, hardware & textiles)

Week 5 (accessories)

Also to refresh your memory and to appreciate the dramatic transformation, I’ve included a few before images in combination with the new images.

I’m over-the-moon with the result. The mosaic marble tile floor was a starting point of the whole design. I went with my gut to do a larger pattern on the floor and I’m so pleased. To counter the heavy pattern the walls, the main vanity and trim were all painted in Farrow & Ball’s Strong White. It’s perfect neutral white for all the gray tones throughout the space.

I was instantly drawn to Kamala Nahas’ Liquid Amber artwork from minted.com. The black and white photograph of a single leaf was simple, yet striking. I hung it over a double towel rack with personalized towels.

I designed the double sink vanity to have modern, clean lines. The polished chrome square ring pulls are a mid-century modern touch that I love. A pair of rectangle under-mount sinks by Kohler (Lowes) are paired with polished chrome faucets and a beautiful Calcutta marble top.

waterworks bathroom accessories // @simplifiedbee #oneroomchallenge

A handsome trio of bath accessories from Waterworks are placed on a black and white boudoir tray. I love the mix of material here!

I’m not a fan of matchy matchy finishes. In the bathroom, I mixed a variety of metals including brass and polished chrome.  Here is a detail of Crytorama’s glass torch wall sconce flanking the brass vanity mirrors. Loving it!

The marble shower features two shower heads, a marble seat and a steam unit by Mr. Steam. The lucite door handle by LuxHoldUps is my favorite detail. It’s generous in size and adds that chic touch that I was looking for.

The water closet is super whimsical. The Woods & Pears wallpaper by Cole & Son (DecoratorsBest) sets a dramatic tone. The Roman Shade in Caroline Cecil Textiles‘ Ink Stripe is a fun play on pattern. The round mirror with leather strap (Joss & Main) adds another play on pattern and more natural light to the space. The flush mount ceiling fixture (Crystorama) and painted ceiling in Farrow & Ball’s Worsted is another little element of surprise.

master bathroom // shoe closet detail - bumblebee wallpaper // @simplifiedbee master bathroom // closet wallpaper detail // @simplifiedbee @oneroomchallenge

My closets in the bathroom were lined in Farrow & Ball’s Bumblebee Wallpaper 586 – it’s a grayish pink and a nod to the pink in the original bathroom. I had to incorporate a bee motif somewhere! I’m also thrilled with the rolling laundry basket (Joss & Main) and the chic stool (AllModern).

For an additional modern touch, I selected a glass & brass sputnik flush mount fixture (Lucent Light Shop) to hang above the make-up vanity. Love it!

The make-up vanity is my special little space in the bathroom. Isn’t it pretty? In addition to the stool, I incorporated lots of girly touches like the lucite and polished chrome pulls, round marble tray by waterworks for my perfume and a bronze standing mirror by Arteriors (Bellacor). The top of the vanity is also papered in the same Bumblebee wallpaper as the closets and covered with clear glass. The window is also treated with a Roman shade in Caroline Cecil Textiles.

My husband’s walk-in closet was quite a transformation too! The new space features a playful Great Wave wallpaper by Cole & Son (DecoratorsBest), a handsome rope mirror (Bassett Mirror Co) and a stately brass semi-mount light fixture (Crystorama).

I also incorporated some super stylish storage pieces including a beautiful marble box (Bellacor), rattan laundry basket (Waterworks) and beach house bins that line the shelves.

I can’t tell you how relieved I am to have this project completed. The process certainly had its ups and downs. It would have never happened without the support of Linda (the founder of the One Room Challenge), the generosity of my sponsors and all of sub-contractors that maneuvered schedules to make it happen. A huge thank you!!!

One Room Challenge :: Week 5

My master bathroom and walk-in closet renovation for the One Room Challenge got very stressful last week. Nothing about the shower door installation was easy. First, I was told on the day of the scheduled install that they got one of the panel measurements wrong and that the hole for the handle was done in error – so they weren’t able to install that day. A week went by and I was told the new glass was on its way. When the replacement glass arrived last Friday, one of the panels was the wrong thickness and the hardware wasn’t in the right finish. At this point in time with the challenge, I couldn’t wait another week for the right materials. I made the decision to have the guys go ahead and install for the photo shoot, but that it would have to be corrected. Here is an image of the flooring before the shower door was installed. I’m loving the transition from the bigger octagon mosaic floor to the smaller marble hex tile shower floor.

Last week wasn’t all that bad though because lots of the fun details were installed. One of my favorite was a pair of Roman shades by The Shade Store in Ink Stripe organic cotton canvas by Caroline Cecil Textiles. They are stunning! The canvas has a really nice weight to it that works well for window treatments. The image below captures one of the shades that was hung in the water closet. I love the play on pattern here.

The round mirror with leather strap was sourced through Joss & Main (another fabulous ORC sponsor with fabulous prices!). I selected a smaller scale round mirror as an accent to break up all of the horizontal and vertical lines in the space. I love that it reflects more natural light into the bathroom.

Adorne by Legrand // pop-out outlet // @simplifiedbee

Also a highlight was the install of some very stylish light switches and outlets by adorn legrand. This pop-out outlet was a favorite included in my product review last week. It’s a small detail, but design is all about the the details?

I also wanted to share some of the other smaller details for this space. Here’s a few of the beautiful bathroom accessories I selected:

1 arteriors bronze tabletop mirror // 2 mongolian cross leg stool // 3 floe soap dispenser & toothbrush holder in smoke

4 keaton wall mirror // 5 rolling laundry bin // 6 black edge boudoir tray

faux lamb fur lucite stool // @allmodern // @simplifiedbee #oneroomchallenge

Here’s a peek at the make-up vanity with new lucite & chrome pulls from LuxHoldups and the faux lamb cross stool from AllModern.com (a favorite source for modern furnishings and an ORC sponsor). I LOVE this stool and so do my daughters!

1 waterworks rattan laundry basket // 2 marble box with wood lid // 3 modern brass pull // 4 tribal kilim runner // 6 natural & white woven bins

rope mirror detail // walk-in closet // @simplifiedbee

For my husband’s walk-in closet, I selected a nautical rope mirror from Bassett Mirror Company (one of our fab ORC sponsors) for several reasons; one, I thought it had a masculine quality that he would like (and he does!), two, because it would add more light in the space, and three, it compliments the Cole & Sons Wave wallpaper.

Also for the walk-in closet, I selected a beautiful marble box with a wood lid from Bellacor (a returning ORC sponsor that offers over 500,000 home decor products). It delivers both organization and style – which of course I love! The box is just the right size for my hubby to place his wallet, phone and keys in. The marble and wood combination is so chic too!

Next week is the final reveal! I can’t wait to share with you our new bathroom and walk-in closet. I’m over-the-moon with how it’s pulling all together! Meanwhile, be sure to follow along on Instagram where I’m sharing more images! Just in case you are just joining this series, here are links to the first four weeks of the One Room Challenge:

Be sure to also check out the progress of the other 19 ORC participants! I’m blown away by the talent…

One Room Challenge 2015 :: Decor Trends

Guess what? Last week my stair runner was installed! I’m so bummed it didn’t make the final One Room Challenge reveal, but it was totally worth the wait! I’m hoping to take a few shoots of it this week to share with you.

The install had me thinking of all the lovely designs produced for the One Room Challenge.  As I reflect back, a few decor trends were featured in a number of rooms. Here are the ones that caught my eye:

BUFFALO CHECK PLAID

buffalo check drapery

Kimberly dressed the windows in her living room with a timeless and trendy buffalo check plaid. It’s a pattern that’s been a fashion favorite too!

STATEMENT WALLPAPER

statement wallpaper // dressing room // coco + kelley

Wallpaper has been trending for several years now, but it was hotter than ever in this season’s ORC. Cassandra used the most amazing statement wallpaper in her attic dressing room. Loving the chic pattern and colorway too!

LUCITE + BRASS
lucite & brass curtain rods

Lucite and brass have been trending for some time, but I love the combo. It popped up a couple times in the ORC. It’s perfect here as a curtain rod in Mackenzie’s guest bedroom too!

CHINOISERIE PATTERNS

chinoiserie kitchen

Chinoiserie patterns were featured in several ORC rooms including my own Foyer! I swooned over the textiles and wallcoverings used throughout Paige’s kitchen.
