Client Reveal: Kids’ Playroom Design

Last year I had the pleasure of working with a darling family of four in Dallas, Texas. The young family sought out my virtual design services to help decorate their new 4,000 square foot home. From furniture to wallcoverings, rugs to accessories, we worked together over the course of a few months to create a design that was kid-friendly, budget conscious and yet still reflects the family’s personal style.

Recently some of the rooms I designed were photographed and today I wanted to share the kids’ playroom with you. I love this space because it’s super functional, yet stylish too. The playroom features wide orange and white stripes on the ceiling, floor-to-ceiling book display and tons of smart storage for all the toys. The art wire is perfect for showcasing the kids’ masterpieces and can updated in minutes.

Elfed at Christmas Printout and Hot Cocoa Recipe

Starting in December, my kids enjoy “elfing” our neighbors and friends. It works like this: Someone starts by secretly dropping treats with instructions at two houses. Don’t get caught!  Then those two families are asked to continue the fun by elfing two more houses. Once elfed you are supposed to post the image of an elf near the front door so they don’t get elfed again. We think it’s a fun way to pass along some Christmas cheer!

This year we decided to created baskets with hot cocoa jars, candy canes and other goodies.

In each basket, I included a recipe for hot cocoa to go along with the premade mix in the jar.  Above is the revised version of a recipe for creamy hot cocoa I found on allrecipes.com.

Here are the “elfed” printouts I used this year. So cute, don’t you think? I found the downloads for free at Anders Ruff via Pinterest.

Have you been elfed?

Thanksgiving Family Photo Booth

Taking family photos when the whole gang is together over Thanksgiving is a must. I love the idea of creating your own photo booth with a solid drape background and handheld props. I’m smitten with these Pilgrim hats, Indian headdresses and turkey leg props by Silhouette Shop. This DIY collection is formatted to be printed on 8.5 x 11 heavy cardstock. Just print, cut, stick on a stick and have fun!

You’ve Been Boo’d – Happy Halloween!

Halloween_Boo'd_Template_Printout
Getting boo’d is a fun tradition in our neighborhood we look forward to. This year my kids were really into helping make the baskets for the families we were going to “boo.” Candies and other Halloween trinkets went in the baskets, but I thought my oldest had the best idea to wrap them in fake spider webs. Isn’t that so creative?

Once you’ve been “boo’d” you place the sign on your front door to let other neighbors know. Our boo sign somehow disappeared. My youngest said that the oldest threw it away hoping we would be boo’d again. {smile} So, we made our own boo sign {above}, but below is a darling you can download at {grey square designs} via Pinterest.
