One Room Challenge Spring 2016 :: Favorites

The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur. My kids are wrapping up their school year, we have started demoing the kitchen/great room and I’ve starting taking training classes for our puppy (see image below). I’m also quite relieved that the One Room Challenge Spring 2016 edition is complete. The experience was so much fun, yet exhausting. I’m so thankful to have worked with Linda from Calling it Home who created it all and with the generous event sponsors including, allmodernbassett mirrorbellacorcaroline cecil textilescrystoramadecoratorsbestfarrow & balljoss & mainloweslucent light shopluxholdupsminted.comwaiting on martha, and  waterworks.

A huge thank you to you. I’m overwhelmed by the supportive and loving comments, emails, and thumbs up you’ve sent my way. Many thanks!!!

Did you have an opportunity to check out the other 19 bloggers that participated in the challenge? Again, I was blown away by the talent and gorgeous designs. Here are a few of my favorite ORC transformations…

laundry room // the zhush

Who wouldn’t enjoy doing laundry in this space designed by Sue De Chiara of the The Zhush? My favorite design detail is the fabulous Nuvolette wallpaper by Cole and Sons. Perfection.

Claire Brody transformed her living room using layers of neutrals. Isn’t it inviting? Love.

Modern, organized and chic – the new office space for the Waiting On Martha team is a fave.

The guest suite by pencil and paper blog is one I’d love in my own home. I adore the blush pink walls and chinoiserie touches.

How sweet is this pink bedroom the Nicole from Sketch 42 designed for her sister? Loving the skirted table in Miles Redd fabric.

colorful den // the pink clutch // one room challenge

Paige Minear of The Pink Clutch transformed her already beautiful den into a colorful oasis. There is so much eye candy in this space from the wallpapered bookcases to the gorgeous upholstery. Love all of the layers.

Book Review :: Decorating The Way I See It by Markham Roberts

Book Review // Decorating The Way I See It // Markham Roberts #design #book #interiors

New York-based interior designer, Markham Roberts is bringing a fresh and modern approach to traditional and contemporary styles alike. Known for his ability to work in any design vernacular, Roberts trained with legendary decorator Mark Hampton for six years before launching his own design firm in 1997. Since then his career has skyrocketed. His work has been described as “the very definition of chic” and published in Architectural Digest, Domino, House Beautiful, and House & Garden – just to name a few. Roberts was also named to the elite AD100 earlier this year. For these reasons you can imagine how eager I was to get me hands on his newly released book, Decorating: The Way I See It. Simply put, it’s extraordinary.

First, I love how the book is organized. Rather than dishing out decorating advice, Roberts takes us step-by-step as he would a design project – from the floor plan to the color and pattern scheme to the furnishings and accessories. The 250+ pages showcases his work ranging from New York City apartments to sprawling country homes. The diversity, sophistication and exceptional personable touch he delivers project after project is truly outstanding. With over 300 stunning images, selecting ones to share with you was the hardest part of of this review, however here are a few of my favorites:

Markham, with his unflinching ease, his assured eye, his natural understanding of how a house should function, and his total lack of pretense, creates rooms that age well and are timeless. – Senga Mortimer – Editor at Large at House Beautiful

This last image with cozy daybed in a rich velvet is perhaps my favorite. Roberts designed the colorful office for a mom with four children, three dogs and a husband that works from home. The inviting niche sits is directly across from her desk and provides a quiet place of her own. I long for such a space!

I know you will adore this book and fall in love with Roberts’ work like I have. It’s an absolute must have for any design library. Don’t pass on this one!

happy decorating,

Pinterest :: 5 Favorites

Hello Monday! The start of a new week can be both refreshing and overwhelming. This week is loaded with back-to-school planning, client projects and wrapping up our remodel (which I’m hoping to share more pix of  soon!). So, I’m a bit more overwhelmed than I’d like.

To start the week off on an inspiring note, I’m sharing a few of my favorite pins on Pinterest as of late.

Design Crush :: New York Apartment by Designer Ashley Whittaker

Over the July 4th holiday I had time to catch up on some of my favorite shelter magazines. One interior design project featured on the cover of this month’s House Beautiful, struck a cord with me. The delightful 800 square foot New York apartment was designed by Ashley Whittaker. Multi-functional furnishings, exquisite details and a mix of patterned wallcoverings are found throughout the home. Overall, the space has a feminine feel which is perfect for the owner, a single woman in her 30s. In the living room, Whittaker balances the lavender palette with with touches of gray and black. One of these elements is the fabulous black and white photograph hung above the sofa. The large-scale photograph is also a personal touch too because it’s by the the home owner’s brother, Landon Nordeman.
