I often talk about using baskets for stylish storage options, but baskets are terrific too for decorative accents throughout the home. I’ve spotted a few favorite images features woven beauties in a variety of spaces including the dining room. kitchen and a babies’ nursery. I’m loving the incredible wall below featuring beautiful African baskets – what a head turner!
Our spring has been cooler than usual and is taking its own sweet time to arrive. It has me longing for the long warm days of summer and I think that’s why I’m so drawn to the beautiful South Carolina beach house designed by Cortney Bishop. The interior’s simple white backdrop is paired with pops of contrasting blacks and grays. Warmer wood accents are featured in furnishings, cabinetry and ceiling details. And of course, I’m a huge fan of the large windows and all that natural light. The views of the Atlantic Ocean must me amazing. Take a a little beach house tour . . .
The kiddo’s spaces shown below are perhaps my favorite. The bunk room is so chic and functional. I love how it leads to a game room. The black triple faucet sink is the best too.
With a new year, many of us have plans to renovate or fresh-up our homes. One living space I’d recommend starting with the heart of the home, the kitchen. We recently finished our kitchen renovation and I must say, it was worth the pain. If you are considering a kitchen renovation of your home, take a look at my favorite kitchen design trends for 2018.
ONE :: DARK KITCHENS
Move over all-white kitchens – dark kitchens are in! The dark kitchen however is not a new trend in 2018, but one that’s been building momentum over the last few years and can’t be ignored. From modern to traditional, dark gray, navy and black are hues are being used on cabinetry. I love it paired with white walls like in this kitchen designed by Studio McGee.
TWO :: STATEMENT RANGES
Another trend in kitchen design are statement ranges. Elaborate hoods are being toned down, while ranges are ramping up in style. Even though there are several luxury ranges that would certainly make a statement in your kitchen, La Cornue is leading the pack. La Cornue gives you more flexibility in customizing the color and trim of their ranges with 8 colors and 3 trim options. This gourmet kitchen (spotted on Instagram) feature’s a gorgeous La Cornue range in tapestry.
THREE :: COZY KITCHENS
Open floor plans have allowed for a easy access from kitchen to living spaces, however it’s been the textiles and furnishings which help deliver a seamless flow. In the process, kitchens are now getting more inviting, approachable and cozier. Adding upholstered banquettes, throw pillows and plush area rugs in the kitchen is a trend I don’t see slowing down in 2018. FOUR :: BLACK FINISHES
FOUR :: MATTE BLACK FINISHES
As I mentioned, darker colors are making a comeback in the kitchen, but it’s not just the cabinetry. I’m specifically noticing a shift from polished finishes (brass, chrome, etc.) to matte black. From lighting to faucets; appliances to hardware, matte black finishes are trending. Loving this breakfast nook with a woven pendant in black. The simple, clean-lined, practical design of the modern farmhouse is appealing and trending. A wraparound porch, standing metal seam roof and industrial lighting is one quick way to spot one from the street. But, the rustic, yet refine style goes beyond the exterior. Inside plank wooden flooring and exposed reclaimed beams are often offsite by crisp white walls. In fact, the modern farmhouse color palette is typically very simple: black, white, and gray. Classic stripe and check patterns are also featured throughout the home including throw pillows, wallpaper and tile work. Other farmhouse elements often found are sliding barn doors, apron sinks and ship-lap siding. I’ve rounded up a few images of different rooms through a house that are great examples of modern farmhouse style.
