Summer’s heat is here and it’s be relentless. In addition, we are getting smoke from forest fires all over California. The heat and haze has me longing for cooler, clearer days. I’ve pulled a few Pinterest favorites featuring crisp whites and cool greens. A palette I adore.

A home’s entry is one of the most important spaces to decorate and organize. It’s the place where you will meet & greet guests, take on and off shoes and hang up coats and scarves. And for this, it needs to be both beautiful and functional. This chic modern entry was designed by Lauren Nelson and recently featured in San Francisco Cottages & Gardens.
I’m loving all the design details – the chevron front door, striking Pietra marble floors and rustic wooden bench topped with an organic sheepskin rug. The console table and baskets are perfect for helping organized keys, scarves and shoes.
How darling is this painted stairwell with chic lucite handrail? It’s in a gorgeous Cape Cod home designed by Raquel Garcia and featured in Elle Decor. The space had me thinking beautiful staircases and how they can make such powerful architectural and design statements.
In our own home which I shared on Instagram, I added decorative cement tiles and gray paint to give a small stairwell leading to our mudroom a fresh look. Dino our Sheepadoodle puppy loves it too!
To kick off the weekend, I’ve rounded-up a variety of staircases featuring runners with bold patterns, tiles with ethic touches and handrails with artistic style. You might notice one that looks familiar too – it’s another staircase in our home that I’ve talked about before. Can you pick it out?

The simple, clean-lined, practical design of the modern farmhouse is appealing and trending. A wraparound porch, standing metal seam roof and industrial lighting is one quick way to spot one from the street. But, the rustic, yet refine style goes beyond the exterior. Inside plank wooden flooring and exposed reclaimed beams are often offsite by crisp white walls. In fact, the modern farmhouse color palette is typically very simple: black, white, and gray. Classic stripe and check patterns are also featured throughout the home including throw pillows, wallpaper and tile work. Other farmhouse elements often found are sliding barn doors, apron sinks and ship-lap siding. I’ve rounded up a few images of different rooms through a house that are great examples of modern farmhouse style.
