Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House :: The Card Room

Inspired by the preppy, glamorous style of 1960′s Palm Beach, San Francisco-based interior designer, Scot Meacham Wood of SMW Design has transformed a corner room for the Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House into a delightful Card Room. With stunning views of the pool, waterfall and magnificent Woodside hills, it’s the perfect spot for an afternoon bridge match, refreshing drink and good old fashion girl talk.

Using nearly 100 yards of fabric,  the room is tented from ceiling to floor in Lilly Pulitzer’s “Tail Lights” in emerald green (available at Lee Jofa).  Each of the four card tables are covered in “Happy Plaid” also by Lilly Pulitzer, topped with darling polished chrome lamps by Circa Lighting and circled with varied antique chairs. The grand chinoiserie secretary (love!) from Baker Furniture was placed opposite the French doors. It balances the r

A cheery yellow custom designed bar cart from the Gilded Stag  is stocked with summertime drinks. I love that this piece was a bit over-sized. It’s the right scale for the space.

Scot incorporates wonderful artwork throughout the space including photography by famed photographer Slim Aarons and several works from local photographer James Scott Geras.

Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House :: Guest Bedroom & Bath

Melodie Rubin of House of Ruby designed the Traveler’s Bedroom, a serene guest retreat for the Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House in Woodside, California going on now until May 24th. The sunlit second floor bedroom as Melodie puts it, ”offers the best seat in the house, providing an impressive view of the three-story birch tree and Woodside hills beyond.”

Guest Bedroom - Peninsula Decorator Show House - House of RubyEmbroidered linen window treatments inspired the room’s tranquil color palette of  lavender, blues, greens and ivory. It’s the gilded canopy bed however, that takes center stage. I love that it has a soft upholstered headboard – it’s a nice juxtaposition to the metal frame. An ornate hand-beaded floral chandelier (which reminded me of a birdcage) hangs elegantly above a seating area placed at the foot of the bed.

The pair of Bunny Williams table lamps beautifully mimic the movement and pattern in throw pillows on the sofa love-seat. Those table lamps are gorgeous and are a personal favorite.

Melodie (pictured above) designed a custom corner bookshelf lined in blue paint. It not only balances the room, but displays beautiful collections of art, books and worldly treasures. I also loved the sculpture of the colorful archer she selected and place just beside the bookcase.

Just of the guest bedroom is the Dressing Room and Bath by Jana Meewes Fung of Julianne Quelle Interior Design. It’s restful sage, lavender and taupe color palette allows for a seamless transition between the two spaces. Standout elements in this space include an exquisite Venetian mirror, bamboo “Dynasty” chair and luxurious fabrics.

These spaces are so fresh, crisp and chic. Love! Don’t you?

Sneak Peek :: Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House 2013

cobblestone driveway with fountain - Woodside California

One of the last great estates on the San Francisco Peninsula is the home of the 2013 Peninsula Volunteers Inc. Decorator Show House. Located in Woodside, California just south of San Francisco, the 11,000 square foot 1930′s Monterey Colonial features 20 beautifully decorated designer rooms and is situated on a 21-acre estate with breathtaking vistas of the hillside.  This is the first designer home event on the Peninsula in a decade, so it’s quite special for us that live nearby.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2013 :: Dressing Room by Shelley & Co.

Now that you’ve seen a Sneak Peek at the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase, I know you want to see more! Today we will be taking a tour of a small, but  highly functional coveted space; the walk-in closet.

hic designer walk-in closet by Shelley and Co.

The Dressing Room, just off the teen girl’s bedroom was designed by Shelley Cahan of Shelley & Company Interior Design. It’s très chic! And believe me, no detail was overlooked!

“This dressing room is a nod to the glamour of a bygone era where getting ready for dinner was an extravagant routine in itself.” – Shelley Cahan

beautiful walk-in closet design

The luxurious custom closets by SOZO Studio are upholstered in a gray herringbone fabric. The soft touch is really a juxtaposition to the masculine pattern. It’s a lovely touch. The white upholstered chair designed by Ironies is layered with colorful ikat and needlepoint pillows and a burnt orange throw.

The black and white geometric wallpaper (Kravet) is paired a crisp white Roman shade with a timeless Greek key trim.

Sneak Peek :: San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2013

In the last few months, twenty-seven leading West Coast interior design firms have transformed 2800 Pacific Avenue  into the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. Known as “Herbst Manor,” the iconic 8,000+ square foot Georgian mansion is located atop San Francisco’s coveted Pacific Heights at the corner of Divisadero and Pacific. The elegant home features sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. Truly spectacular in and of itself.

Herbst Manor Showcase House 2013

Herbst Manor was built in 1899 by Ernest Coxhead, the architect for San Francisco’s Holy Innocents Episcopal Church as well as several other homes in Pacific Heights.  The estate has had four owners over the past 114 years, but was originally built in for Sarah Spooner, an avid art collector from Philadelphia. Spooner filled the home with her art collections which in most part was bequeathed to the San Francisco’s deYoung Museum following her death in 1914.  The home was purchased in 1906 – just before the great earthquake – by Herman Shainwald, a co-founder of Buckbee Thorne & Co., one of the primary real estate companies in the Bay Area.  In 1914, John MacGregor, president of Union Iron Works, purchased the home.  MacGregor was active citizen, serving on the Board of Supervisors and the Parks Commision and supporting the San Francisco Symphony and Boy Scouts. Abraham Gruhn and his wife Lee Herbst Gruhn, avid art collectors and supports of the deYoung, purchased the house in 1967.  Today, the home is owned by the Gruhn’s nephew and his wife, Mark and Karen Montoya.
