Holiday Gift Guide 2014 :: For the Home

Gifts for the home are always a welcome sight for the decor lovers on your list. Today, I’ve hand-picked some fabulous items that I’ve been swooning over this fall. As you will see, I’m gravitating to home furnishings and accessories in neutrals (great for layering), with a touch of brass (still so hot!), and clean lines (always timeless). From a stunning chair by Kelly Wearstler (splurge) to a festive stoneware pitcher by Oh Joy! for Target (super affordable), there’s a variety of gift ideas ranging in price. I’m hoping Santa brings me one of two of these lovely items for my home!

Design Trend :: Brass in Home Decor

For some time now, silver or nickel decor, hardware and accents have dominated interior design. In the past few years however, golden brass tones have been making a comeback in home decor. And although many of my clients aren’t willing to make the leap just yet, brass is back in a big way. Whether shiny or honed, the rich warm metallic is being featured in every inch of the home.

San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2013 :: The Living Room

San Francisco based interior designer, Catherine Kwong designed an elegant, yet edgy living room for the 2013 San Francisco Decorator Showcase. While researching for a client, Kwong came across photos of Mick and Bianca Jagger in the 1970’s – they were young and wild. The iconic rock royalty couple inspired the living room’s design for the Showcase.

Staying with tradition, Kwong kept the elaborate gilded ceiling and crown molding. She painted the walls a crisp white to complement the clean modern lines of the furnishings.

However, it’s the hand-painted floor takes center stage. Created by Stancil Studios, the free-spirited pattern was inspired by the paintings of Cy Twombly. It’s quite the juxtaposition to the ornate ceiling, marble fireplace and traditional architecture.

A pair of vintage fringe light fixtures grace the floors and flanked the stately marble fireplace. They added a wonder soft, feminine touch.
The vintage lucite candle stick stood out because I recently saw a similar pair at an estate sale.
