5 Favorites :: Organizing Your Home

organized mudroom #getorganized

(image via remodelista)

Hello 2017! With the new year brings new resolutions. One goal that may top your list is organizing your home. However, this can be easier said than done! Cleaning closets, organizing the entry, and clearing the clutter takes planning, time and motivation. In the spirit of getting organized in 2017, I’m sharing 5 simple ways to get organized.
ONE :: HOOKSsimple entry with hooks and bench

Entryways are a dumping ground for coats, shoes and bags. Make the space more orderly with wall hooks to hang items. I love this example by Coco.Kelley.

TWO :: BASKETSorganized linen closet with baskets

Linen closets can get messy quickly if they are not planned out. I recommend baskets with tags to keep the space well organized. Here Ballard Designs uses chic woven baskets house toilet paper and bedding.

THREE :: PIN BOARDScork wall // home office

I’m a huge fan of pin boards to keep important papers organized and top of mind. This cork wall is not only a great way to keep announcements, invites and important documents organized, it’s a decor statement. Love!

FOUR :: CLEAR STORAGE

Acrylic storage is a favorite of mine for obvious reasons – you can see everything inside saving so much time. I love this example of acrylic drawer front for a closet I spotted on My Domaine.

FIVE :: TRAYS

I love trays for organizing. I use them throughout the house to corral items. Above are two examples of how I use trays in my own home. The first is a ceramic tray to house bathroom essentials and the second is a simple wooden tray to keep oils, spices and other kitchen items organized beautifully.

Scandinavian Christmas Style

Have you been busy decking the halls? Truth be told – I haven’t gone crazy this season. I’m not sure if my hesitation to go all out decorating for Christmas is because of all the hectic house construction over the last year or that my holiday style is changing. Over time I’ve been increasingly drawn to the simple style of the Scandinavian Christmas. The style embraces minimalist, rustic and natural elements that I’m loving this season. To show you, I’ve pulled some of my favorite images featuring this Nordic style – all found on my Holiday Decorating Ideas board on Pinterest (yes, still a go to place to organize images and inspiration).

Book Review :: Home Decor Cheat Sheets

How high should you hang a chandelier hang above the dining table? What paint finish should you use a kid’s room? What size rug should go under your bed? When it comes to decorating the questions can be endless, but there are definitely some design dos and don’ts I adhere to. Some of these “rules” are easy to remember, but it’s always nice to have a cheat sheet or illustration to reference. Over time I have pinned, cut-out and dogeared pages in decor books, but have never had one single source. So I was thrilled to receive a copy of a newly released book, Home Decor Cheat Sheets by Jessica Probus that contains 300+ colorful, easy-to-understand images aimed at teaching you everything from furniture placement to bathroom lighting tricks, window styles to  how to make a floor plan. I’m loving the practical nature of this book and is a resource I’m looking forward to using for years to come. Decor lovers, you are going to want a copy of this helpful book. It would also make a perfect housewarming gift!

Just like the completion of any home, the cheat sheets in this book are meant to be used as a process not to be tackled in one day or even one year, but consulted as needed over time to make the kind of slow, purposeful improvements that turn a few walls and some well-hung curtains into an actual home. – Jessica Probus, Author of Home Decor Cheat Sheets
