San Francisco Decorator Showcase 2015 :: Sneak Peek

This year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase is a beautiful Elizabethan-style home designed by iconic architect Julia Morgan (notable works include the legendary Hearst Castle and became the first woman to be awarded the American Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal). The residence located on Jackson street in the prestigious Presidio Heights neighborhood, was completed in 1917 for $20,000 for Abraham Rosenberg, the “Dried Fruit King” and his wife, Alice.

In the last few months, thirty-eight Bay Area interior designers have transformed the six bedroom, eight bath home for the San Francisco University High School’s 38th annual Decorator Showcase. Gorgeous light fixtures, exquisite furnishings and extraordinary wallcoverings had me visiting spaces more than once on my tour. Here’s a sneak peek of the showcase:

Laundry Room Decor :: Wallpaper

You all know how much I love wallpaper. It can transform a ho-hum space instantly. One of my favorite spots for wallpaper too is in the laundry room. Who wouldn’t want to cheer up the typically industrial space with a pop of color and beautiful pattern? So today I’ve rounded up a few chic laundry rooms featuring fabulous wallpaper.

Spring Cleaning Checklist & Essentials

It’s here! Spring has sprung and warmer weather is on its way. This also means that it’s time to start deep cleaning our homes. I know, it’s a drag for many, but schedule the time and complete the project task by task. If you don’t know where to start, Martha Stewart has created a comprehensive spring cleaning checklist for you to download. The task list can be easily tailored to your home.

Before you start cleaning, you’ll need the essentials. I love that so many cleaning products are eco-friendly, help reduce clutter and are made in cheery colors and patterns… just makes the task more fun, don’t you think?

Beautiful Efficient Laundry Rooms

Laundry. There is no getting around the task, but it can be tackled many ways. Popular approaches include one load per day, one day for all or separate loads for each person in your household. My family likes to have “folding parties” where the kids fold their own clothing. In any case, test out the different approaches and see what works best for your family. For more ideas Circle of Moms just published tips for an efficient laundry routine that you may find helpful.

Laundry rooms of course need to be functional first and foremost, but there is no reason why they can’t be beautiful too. Personally I gravitate toward all white laundry rooms with a hint of color, pattern and texture that can be played out in tile backsplash, flooring or window treatment. Here are some beautiful laundry rooms that would make the task more fun!
