True blue. It’s a favorite color of many including interior designer Mark D. Sikes who created these beautiful spaces in a sea of blue. The calming color is a fabulous choice throughout the house including for nurseries (boys and girls!), bathrooms and kitchens. For today’s Friday Finds, I’ve rounded-up a few of my current favorite home decor items in the shade of blue.

Book Review :: A House in the Country

Book Review // A House in the Country // via @simplifiedbee

What happens when a renowned architect and an A-list interior designer collaborate to build their dream home? The magical result is chronicled in a must have new decor book, A House in the Country which invites us in the one-of-a-kind Greek Revival-inspired house of Peter Pennoyer (architect) and Katie Ridder (designer). The creative power couple spent years searching for just the right property and in 2009 found a ranch house on six-and-a-half acres in Millbrook, New York. With more than 300 photos and illustrations, Peter and Katie invite us into their home and share the story behind the transformation. The book is simply organized into three sections – Exterior, Interior and Garden. It’s evident from just the first few page turns, that the home’s architecture and interior design are totally in sync. Don’t let the exterior traditional architecture fool you either – the home’s interior is colorful and full of modern touches. Katie’s bold use of color including pink and purple – beautifully connects and defines the spaces in Peter’s open-floor plan. In addition, the home’s garden is sensational and I love how the book dives into the smallest details including plant selection.

This home is extraordinary and the book captures it amazingly. Here is just a sampling of the stunning images.

Mind & Body :: Chesapeake Bay Candle

chesapeake bay candle // mind & body

Recently I received a lovely assortment of candles and diffusers from the Mind & Body Collection by Chesapeake Bay Candle. The arrival of this new lifestyle collection of home fragrance products couldn’t have come at a better time. Our kitchen remodel has run into some roadblocks that have added additional stress to our lives and we needed a little wellness. The Chesapeake Bay’s Mind & Body Collection offers eight soothing scents available in a range of formats, including jar candles, reed diffusers, and pillar candles in three sizes. And all are very reasonably priced!

Chesapeake Bay Candle // Harmony

The first candle I gravitated to was Peace & Tranquility. I love the simple, yet elegant white frosted glass jar which looks great in any room. Clean, airy and exotic, this candle delivers a beautiful aroma blending floral namely jasmine, cotton blossom, and rose with woody elements including cashmere and sandalwood. I also loved that the soy wax blend candle with a lead-free cotton wick burns cleanly – perfect for the healthy home. This beauty is going to be enjoyed in our new kitchen and a calming reminder to look at the positives in life.

Chesapeake Bay Candle // Peace + Tranquility

Other favorites from the collection include Joy + Laughter (cranberry dahlia) and Reflection + Clarity (sea salt sage) – be sure to check out the entire collection here!
